Not when the tower is finished though, years later yes.

Abraj Al-Bait will be completed by 2013/2014. Shanghai Tower a maybe. I'm doubtful Ping'An and 117 will be complete by then considering that they both are just barely beginning groundwork. My bet is that it will either be 3rd or 4th tallest by time of completion.

all downtown needs is a peak. To stand out..and this is gonna be great, I like the 3-beams into one. The spire will hopefully be better proportioned than NY times'

No way those are topped out before WTC1. Not even if you count in the speed the chinese work. I even think that they are just above ground when WTC1 tops out.

Tianjin and Shenzhen build very quick. Just look at Tianjin WFC and Kingkey FCP. The original question was when 1WTC was complete (not topped out), which won't be till late 2013 or early 2014. So those chinese towers have a chance to finish before 1WTC.

That's baloney, they're not going to finish before Freedom Tower! The base of Freedom tower is almost already done, it should go faster when we get into the regular floors even. Those building also don't have a 400 foot spire.

It's scheduled to reach the top floor by the end of 2011. The antennae/spire probably won't be installed till sometime in 2012 (maybe even in 2013).

If you fall into it KNOWING that it's there and SEEING that it's that large, then you deserve to fall into it.

Does anyone know when we might expect to see the first exterior cladding? You would think by late spring or early summer, but this project has "progressed" in such an, um, interesting manner, who knows?

Who knows. A lot of buildings go up for months before getting cladding, but some get cladding that follows closely behind the structure itself (like Trump Tower Chicago)

IIRC, the first cladding started appearing on Trump even before the first transfer floor was completed. Of course, since the plan was to open the hotel portion a good year prior to the completion of the entire structure, the rush was on.

1WTC is such an unique project the cladding could begin as soon as shortly after the base is complete or not until it's reached the 50th floor. I was just hoping someone might have some knowledge of the construction schedule to let us know what to expect this year.

we went through the whole waterfall thing back in 2008. There wasn't much to talking about back then, feels like forever ago lol.
