I noticed the same thing when looking at it at around 3 PM yesterday with the WTC lit up as if it was night when it really wasn't.

Just another false alarm as usual.

I don’t think people understand the size and iconic magnitude of this building and project. This is a skyscraper that makes the Empire State Building look small. There are not a lot of buildings like that. It’s truly the tallest office building in the world, a tribute to NY’s dominance in the world. In a few years, the downtown skyline will be untouchable, on the same level as the midtown skyline with all of its mega-projects. All of this is going to look so astonishing and incredible futuristic when it’s done. As of today, we’re only a few months, if not weeks, away from seeing this building come to life, and only a few months away from the conception of the other supertalls.

There's no taller office building. Everything else is mixed/res/condo/hotel. 1WTC is classified as office; look it up if you don't believe me.

Overlay made in photoshop

Okay, here's one for the folks at home. If you're confused by what you're seeing at Earthcam, as I was at first, here's an overlay of what will be there, sans the "Cultural Center" if I'm correct. Keep in mind that the constuction is 70 feet below ground level, which accounts for the positioning of the FT "shadow." (the red dots are points of alignment for perspective, which was a bitch to do, btw)

Wow! That's utterly amazing. Maybe the tower cranes aren't really in the core of the skyscraper, but I'm not sure. That thing where the arts center should be is the new temp transit hub.

It is in the core. The Freedom tower footprint goes as east as the end of the verizon building.

I know many of you will call me a pessimist or make personal attacks on me for saying, but we shouldn't always trust timetables when it comes to projects, especially when they don't predict what could happen in the future (ie another delay on the WTC site).

Yes, and the spire will be able to change colors.

If I recall correctly, they want to finish the sub-area steel before summer's end, so it's very likely that we should see some more beams soon. I bet they have ordered steel for the entire tower by now.
