Flint is like a smaller counterpart to Detroit, and suffers from many of the same problems. Detroit is way worse though.

Driving east on I-69, I have one hell of a time picturing the base of 1WTC in place of that building. That really drove the scale of this project home for me.

Flint used to be the home to a a handful of large manufacturing plants that were owned by GM. Sometime in the mid 70s several of them got shut down, and tens of thousands of people went out of work.

I am from Flint and I have always hated that building. The building has been condemned since 2004 and will be finally be demolished in 2011.

It is so ugly- are they gonna build something nicer instead of it right away or just leave it for a future project?

Sorry, I was just trying to put this tower's size into the perspective of middle-America.

Self absorbed really. I didn't say hey guys stop talking about michigan and talk about me. they spent most of the page talking about some shitty ass building that has nothing to do with this.

They will. No one can say for sure when, but I imagine it would be some time this year.

When It complete, it will look nice and show the new power of New York of America.
It may become a new symbol of New York.

I was in NYC this past weekend and I stayed at the Hilton. I watched the construction Friday and Saturday:
-They were busy Friday on WTC1, they stopped at 4pm (approx) Friday afternoon and nothing happened the rest of the weekend. I was suprised that anything happened due to it being the good Friday and Easter weekend holiday.
-The jackhammering machines were going NON-STOP on the transportation hub. Even up until LATE at night. I was in the 51st floor and it was still loud! They also seem to be cutting large square rocks and bringing them up from 'UNDER' the street!?! If you look on the HD cam, you can see a straight line of them at the left side of the bedrock.
-I saw a group of kids cross the bottom of the previous tower 1. I was like WTF? EVERYONE has construction vests (bright green/orange) and a hard hat. These kids had backpacks and baseball hats. I have a really good zoom on my camcorder and could easily see they didn't belong. No adult with them, and one left behind who had to run across to catch the other group who all exited through the small doorway on the west side. Strange lapse of security or just a normal event?
