DCM Solera won the bid to procure and install the glass, and they subbed the actual manufacturing to a Chinese firm. Cladding should begin later this year.

I believe that's just for the podium glass. The office level glass is being provided by Viracon (which did 7WTC amongst many others).

Yea this thread is only half of the burj thread so far but the burj is complete. For comparison on page 709 the burj is completely topped out and just about all usable floors have been clad. This thread is at 709 pages and theres only 4 office floors complete, 20 something floors total, and no cladding at all. This is definately going to pass the burj thread no question. The burj did have a new thread made so I dont know how many were in the old one but the comparison is the two current threads that are up now.

The two are completely incomparable. Burj Dubai didn't just have "a new thread made", it had threads part 1 through 30 before this system was implemented where you don't close old threads when they reach a certain limit.

That said, it truly is great to see this one rising.

Great progress! This tower is really shooting up now!

One thing rubs me the wrong way, however, the interior lobby looks like it will be so cold and bland. There is too much "monochromatism" to it, there is nothing impressive or cheery about the place; I would almost dread going to work just to walk through such a dreary lobby. From the renders, at least, that is the feeling/vibe I get.

When completed, I wonder what the lobby of this building will look like?

when you really think about it and look at the fact that this is just the base it makes you think how this building is really ******* tall and massive haha i mean look at it compared to the WFC its gonna overlook them so much

Yeah, won't it be the tallest tower in New York upon completion? Probably by a good 100 metres too...

http://www.tribecatrib.com/news/2010...de-center.html

"At the beginning of this month, it stood at 24 stories and about one-third of the concrete for the entire building had been poured. By year’s end, the Port Authority estimates, the structure will be at 55 stories and its glass-and-steel skin—the first pieces of which will arrive later this year—will have reached the 30th story."

30 floors high seems a bit optimistic too me. But would be awesome.

oh come on you can't be serious. Just read the last 5 posts.

btw. I think the 30th floor is not that optimistic if you keep in mind that we talk about the official floors. floors 7-19 doesn't exist. hence it's not that much.
