Not really a "new" concept is it. Since you build the lower floors first why not fill em up while you are still finishing the top floors.

Of course, elf 'n safety would never allow it these days, but it has been done in the past, and not too far away from this building either...

Will the floors above the base be clad in reflective glass, or will it be transparent? in this render:

http://brotherpeacemaker.files.wordp...om-tower-1.jpg

It seems like its mostly reflective, but in a newer one:

http://dailydaydreamer.files.wordpre...edom_tower.jpg

you can pretty much see through to the other side.

Any details about this in the plans Zen?

The glass of the office floors well be super clear, just like Tower 7. It's very hard to reproduce in a rendering.

Night shots are cool NYCD. They can tell us things day shots can't, like the temporary lighting extends up to the 20th floor, so far.

No.
earthcam shows very clearly that the steel of floors 25 and 26 is not even half-finished. It's just the external structure you see on the pics above.

btw the first pic of floors 25 and 26 was posted on page 705, april 28th.

The reason that it takes this long is because the lower part of the structure is hard/difficult to construct. You can see this in the render that TowersNYC posted.

What do you know what I don't?

The point is that the building was supposed to reach the 32th floor by the end of the 2nd quarter. They are still in the 26th floor and Mr June is arriving. I'm not a very pessimistic guy, but let's face the facts. It's behind shedule. It won't reach the 32th floor by the end of this quarter and probably won't reach the 55th floor by the end of this year. A lot of people say it will speed up, but they don't say why. Maybe i missed it, because I'm no native speaker I don't know. Please someone enlighten me.

It was supposed to top out last year. See eg. http://www.renewnyc.com/displaynews....5-00b785aba5cb. "with a topping out in 2009."
...and that was after losing years from the original schedule due to the redesign.

If they are behind the last released schedule then I guess all they have to do is make a new one and be on schedule again.

From previous statements (and info here), the major challenges were supposed to be out of the way, with everything settling into a nice rhythm, once they got to the office floors. For a while it looked as though this was going to be the case, and it was going up quite rapidly. Now it's stopped again. I don't know why, but a few pages back there were suggestions that the concrete has got too far behind the steel, but why the concrete is behind...

The concrete guys weren't working fast enough, but more steel has arrived on the site so that problem may be in the past.

Its a shame that there is a cover on the outside of the footbridge that crosses from Vessey street, because that would be a good spot to take a close up on the steel work. I was just there yesterday, and the red steel is amazing up close.

could they handle 4 towers at once?

If towers 2 and 3 were suddenly started could such a small area handle the logistics of simultaneous construction of super four talls?

Yes. They don't just start massive construction projects like this thinking "Oh man, I hope we don't run in to any logistical problems down the line!"

All of it is planned from the very start.

ESB was constructed within its own footprint, steel was lifted into place as it arrived on trucks. The pennsylvania railroad had a supply chain all the way to the foundries in pittsburgh. This method set the standard for construction supply chains.
