And that doesnt even taken into account what this building and the site that its on represents.
i totally agree with this dubai has really soulless looking towers which dont blend well together because they are a massive mishmash of different conflicting styles

I have to agree. Really, think about it, if this tower was any where else in NYC, would it really be that special?

Now, this is just "my" opinion, but I find the tower simply disjointed. Really, what is going on at the top? If you're going to build a tower with a massive spire, at least try to work with the design like Adrian Smith did with the Burj Khalifa.

Thats just the proove how NY doesn't care about height But, I have ontopic question now, becouse I don't remember. The spire, will it have any functionality, will it be antenna inside? Or is it just to increase the height?

Sorry this doesnt answer your question but i think the tower would look strange without a spire.

The tower had a spire because the original 1WTC had an antenna. They serve the same design purpose (although currently, plans for antennae in the spire have been scrapped). Keep in mind also that the actual design of the spire is not represented in any of the renderings.

People's opinion on one side of the earth are those of THIER OWN and don't reflect on what the world populous think or say.

IMO, 1WTC and Shanghai Tower are both suited for thier locations and classy in 2 world mega cities.

Back to the 1WTC thread now.
I never said Shanghai wasnt suited to its location, I just said 1WTC will be more iconic, and I think I clearly stated my reasoning for this. They are both very different towers in totally different leagues. Both great towers, but different nontheless.

Anyway, I dont want to take the thread too far OT.

cheers

Boy, I hope we see new steel soon. This thread goes downhill so quickly without steady progress.

neither did yours.

Anyways... looking less likely they'll hit the 55-60 floor mark by the end of the year.

Affording no more ridiculous delays such as this most recent one, I bet they could hit 50 or close.

I'm betting they'll hit ~50 by the end of the year too. And even that seems generous. Who know what little snafu could strike a few months from now, or after that, and so on...

It's going up, that's all we can ask for.

No worries, it's my fault for going off topic . I did state 'in my opinion' about the location, but for status no doubt 1WTC will be more iconic to some but not discounting the Shanghai Tower which will also be well known for it's height status/stunning design, but I think the location itself does contribute to the fact about why it will be a timeless world famous classic like 1WTC will be but that can be discussed elsewhere.

Sorry, back to the thread now

So considering this whole delay has been due to slow core progress...

has anyone been down there lately and had a chance to see which floor the core is on?

How close does the core have to be to the current level for the steel to proceed?

Are we still going to see base cladding towards the end of the year regardless of the delay?
