The old WTC didn't stand here of course and maybe the buildings that stood here didn't have such deep foundations?

The area under excavation, between Liberty and Cedar Streets, had not been dug out for the original trade center. The vessel, presumably dating from the mid- to late 1700s, was evidently undisturbed more than 200 years.

That is actually very interesting! Would somebody post some links on the subject of manhattan land expansion trough centuries, with maps and stuff like that? I spent some time looking after this, but gave up with no results, but would love to read about this... Thanks in advance!

Wow! Awesome pictures, HK999!

Look at this picture, a computer rendering created based on years of research. This was Manhattan before colonization, commerce and development

I wouldn't consider it as a Spoiler, but I believe that you will enjoy this (the end of Gangs of New York). In relation with previous posts.

I'm sensing some true verticality on the western face there. It will be pretty noticeable when the cocoon moves all the way up.

Can we open a Thread somewhere about this? I'm really interested in this but this is kinda not a right place for this...

Who knows! That's up to the archeologists to discover.
Seeing the render Manhattan before the colonization is quite impressive definitely when you compare it to modern Manhattan.
I didn't know that there was so much land reclamation, hmm... talking about Dutch influence.
On topic: I finally get the feeling that the construction of tower one is speeding up.
The chamfered corners are getting more and more noticeable.

For your curiosity, that new is at this moment at top page at www.elmundo.es, the most viewed newspaper of the net in spanish.

By the way, the second new says "Clamor contra la entrevista de Zapatero y Kagame sobre Derechos Humanos", or "Clamor against the interview between Zapatero and Kagame about the Human Rights". Kagame is someone from Africa, but in spanish it sounds "Shit on me"
