It has overtaken the Verizon Building (the one others call by it's old name: Barclay Vesey Building)!!!!

A milestone in my opinion!

Hi Dino.

You keep on helping people with info you know to be correct. I live on the other side of the globe from the BK and I dare say I know more about it than all but a few on SSC that are directly involved with the project.

Location has nothing to do with knowledge. I really enjoy helping people out when I can as you do. Don't let anyone's negative comments stop you.

You, along with some others make this thread one of the most enjoyable threads with comments and discussion worth reading.

This project is quite amazing and I, like the rest of you, can't wait to see the facade go up. The facade is like nothing else. It should really start to stand out in 3-4 months from now, when 1WTC starts to grow taller than all the tallest buildings near it.

Progess on this is fantastic as usual! I will be in NYC around June 2011, roughly how tall will it be by then? Can't wait to see it going up IRL, especially since all I have seen are pics which make it look tiny!

Thanks Ray..

I actually get the idea of saving all the pics from you, because I think it's great to know that much about something you're interested in but it is on the other side of the world..

And what's the better way than web..

I fianlly see the brilliance of this design, thanks to Culwullas diagram! When viewed directly from any of the four sides, the tower appears square just like the originals. When viewed from a 45 degree angle, the modified pyramid shape is clear, giving it a new modern appearance. Old and new combined. I love it!

I did not notice this effect in person, maybe because there was not enough height at that time.

Sorry to take this thread off topic slightly, but DinoVabec, how do you plan on moving to New York, just out of interest?

"I seriously like how this tower makes everything around small...Look at it...Barclay..Gone..7 WTC..Gone.."

I get the impression this board is populated by lots of younger people who never actually saw the twin towers. Each one of those was way more imposing than this thing is. And taken together....

It's great to finally have lots of real progress at the site. And indeed the WTC site taken as a whole has an amazing amount of construction taking place. But don't let your excitement over that cloud your judgement and lead you to think this building is the best thing to ever happen to NY. It isn't. The buildings built 40 years ago at this site were certainly much more impressive and definitely were at the forefront of what skyscrapers could be in that era. This building is already smallish compared to other buildings around the globe and only partially fills the gaping hole left by its predisescers.

So while we celebrate the construction I think we should keep it in perspective. New York could, and should, do much better than this building.

You need to stop thinking about it in terms of just this one tower. The new WTC fully completed will be much more imposing and impressive than the Twins.
