Cheaper is likely not the reason though.

It would have looked worse with vertical lines intersecting the diagonal steel corner cladding at a very acute angle. This way, only horizontal lines intersect and there are not tiny slivers of cladding every 4th floor.

Possibly another reason is that the intersection point between the vertical joint and the sloping edge would not necessarily coincide with a horizontal joint. That would mean that the inner pane would need to be an irregular five sided shape.

I'm sure this is not a major issue and if you look in detail at any major structure you will find design compromises like that.

ooooh cladding and some proper height at last. Good stuff. Cladding is a bit meh at the moment, needs a bit more to get the overall effect!!

I'm going to New York in January, and wanted to see how it would look at the time. so i made a rough photoshop of it

I just guessed the cladding and most of everything else
