TowersNYC, thanks for this update, it's great..
Thank you for your contribution to the forum, though.

In your mind, all posts should be like that: thank you for the update, great pics, looking good, what a tower blah blah...Sorry if I feel that asking questions, exchanging information, learning should also be a part of the forum.

Ask questions, exchange information, learn. That's the point of these threads.

Let's just quit this stupid, "Our glass looks better than yours," BS because it is becoming very repugnant rhetoric to say the least.

I especially like that last shot TowersNYC.

Ragardless of which side of the argument you're on, the entire debate is, in and of itself, retarded.

Why these people can't just come here to enjoy the construction photos of these two great buildings, and make respectful comments concerning each building in that building's thread, completely baffles me.
A think The Shard is simply a point of reference; you wouldn't compare it to Burj Dubai?? Right?

The Shard is close to 1WTC in terms of quality, design, importance and it happens to have (at least how it looks right now) the best curtain wall of any skyscraper out there. Now, based on what we've been told over and over again, 1WTC should have the same quality curtain wall. However, as it's going up, for some reason it is just not looking the "same". So all of this discussion that in your head is an argument about which building is better, is only an attempt to understand what is being built.

PS If discussion, opposing opinions, words in general bother you, you can always skip over them and just look at the pictures

I personally like these (slightly more heated) discussions. I'd much rather sit and read people's arguments as to why they think this or that is better than to read 'It's getting tall now' 'Looking good' 'How tall is it now?'...

Im not a glass expert but to me WTC looks like a more silvery tone which reflects more obviously than the shard because the shard has a more transparent facade with more subtle reflections.
(BTW i dont think i could pick between which is best because they are both amazing)

It's so wierd looking at the difference! I love looking back on these thinks, after something has been built for say 5 years I tend to find construction pictures of that something a bit surreal!

Great pics, TowersNYC !!

ZippytheChimp, WNY.
These pictures from Zippy were helping him to explain the relation between angles and distortion in glass.

I think this one wasn't posted in this thread. A bit late, but better post it.

That would be fine if there was any weight behind those opinions, but there isn't. Now if you had personally gone to both towers and looked at the glass up close on both towers, then your opinion might count for something on this matter. However, no one here can actually say that they have done that.

In terms of quality, the glass on both buildings is the same for all intensive purposes. In IloveNYC's photos above, notice how the reflection of the construction elevator scaffolding looks nearly perfect like the Shard, but the reflection of the building across the street doesn't (in the same photo with both reflections in the same panels of glass). The Shard has no nearby towers to reflect, and most of the glass panels are tilted inwards. It reflects almost nothing else but the sky, hence the illusion that they aren't wavy when in fact, they are just as I originally pointed out here weeks ago with a particular photo from the Shard thread. The glass that will be tilted inwards on 1WTC will have that same effect.

There's better things to debate over than this, but by all means, keep going....

Your discussion is off topic. This thread is for information relevant to the construction progress of 1WTC. It's not a place to debate which tower has the superior cladding. Deal with it.

Ok, but I did post a link to show the reflection of Guys Hospital, "a nearby tower to reflect" that was shot at the same perspective as a lot of 1WTC pictures. You are correct about the Shard reflecting mostly the sky.

It is true that only a few of us have seen both in person. My last trip to NYC was in June, my last trip to London was in April, so there was no cladding to look at on either. I'll be to both cities again soon.

We can expand the discussion to include the Burj Kahlifa, if anyone wants to? Fourth picture down shows a little.
