What a waste of terrain. It was really necessary to build a memorial that big? I can't think of a better and more honorable memorial than the rebuilding of the TT, only thicker and taller. If you could ask the people who sadly died in that incident if they would choose to reconstruct the two buildings that was one of the most notorious icons of their city and the whole world or to have their memories honored by two giant and ugly holes, I'm pretty sure they would choose the first option.
Yes, I know I'm probably the 4746th person who post this opinion and I'm not even from US, but when I look at that two empty holes and that hideous glass tower that you're raising beside them, I can't avoid thinking that you gave up your American pride...

They have to finnish the lobby, drive some big stuff in, make concrete walls and then put glass up..

What?! They are the footprints of the original World Trade Centres. I think it would be disrespectful to build something on top of them and I can't imagine many New Yorkers wanting a carbon copy of the World Trade Centres to begin with...

I'm sorry but you have a seriously warped vision for that area and all I can say is thank god you're not in charge. Stick to your 10 meter Sao Paulo concrete messes.

There will be millions of visitors to this memorial every year. The space was needed, and a green park area a wonderful solution, IMO. The replacement towers look great and the whole layout is in good taste. I am proud.

Trying to surmise the quality of the glass, how is that not costurction related??

There's better things to debate over than this, but by all means, keep going....
You're so right. I have only seen the Freedom Tower. But then I found out there's this thing called the internet and I learned about this great architecture forum where your can ask questions and get answers and everyone is so knowledgeable and helpful and NICE (oh, and it has a few lucky members who have undoubtedly seen both buildings). And, and....I also, decided to make a few comments and learn about the Shard, because, as you say I have not seen it, and was asking the people who KNOW to help answer my question. Until, people who don't know, started butting in and shutting down any dissenting view point because their understanding of how these threads should be run is a little different; and then I realized why I've only been looking at pictures all these years here at SC, but never posting.

In that case sorry. I will get back to the "standard" comments: this thing is loooking tall ya'll

Not to gush, but this building is looking so much better than I ever imagined it would. It really is going to be fun watching it climb up out of the skyline next year.
