I thought they'd hit the 54th floor by the end of the year. Looks doubtful now.

Current forecast for overnight: Snow and widespread blowing snow before 5am, then areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow after 5am. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 20. Wind chill values as low as -1. Very windy, with a north wind between 38 and 40 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 12 to 18 inches possible.

And for NYC as a whole:

A BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST MONDAY.
* HAZARDS...HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS...WITH CONSIDERABLE
BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW WITH NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY AT
TIMES.
* ACCUMULATIONS...15 TO 20 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS
UP TO 2 FEET POSSIBLE.
* WINDS....NORTH WINDS OF 25 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH ARE
EXPECTED THROUGH LATE TONIGHT.

That's nasty. I imagine such wind gusts could potentially tear apart the cocoon and cause other damage, and it'll drive snow well inside each floor. This same storm gave me about a foot of snow way down in central NC.
Thats nothing. Downtown Boston (in particular Copley Square and State Street) are facing gusts well over 65mph. Corridors of tall buildings along with extremely close proximity to the coast can cause very very high winds in the city. Last month I was going to the Hancock tower for a meeting and almost fell over from the wind outside, and the building was swaying like crazy. I can only imagine it being worse in NY. Those estimates are far too low.

well i live in brewster ny just 40 miles away from the tower and right now barometer machine is picking up winds up to 62 miles per hour. and i live in a house, imagine to winds ontop of a skyscraper like tower 1, especially being near the 90 degree angle of the city of new york and the ocean.

Nice photo, but man they need to take down those ugly brown buildings in the foreground and perhaps those smaller ones next to them and replace them with modern ones.

Believe it or not the smaller ugly brown buildings are Stuyvesant Town—Peter Cooper Village a luxery private residential development built in the 1940's.

The taller ugly brown brick towers are Waterside Towers, residential and built in 1974.

Judging from the RGZ Cam, it looks like the cocoon survived the blizzard:

I love the way 1WTC is "swallowing" 7WTC, or how tower 7 appears to be the "core" of tower 1.

That view is priceless.
Will this snow delay construction or doesn't it matter because of the holiday season?
