Is 2011 the year when WTC1 is expected to be topped out ?

If they continue building at the same pace, I think it can be topped out at the end of this year.

Keeping in mind the floors are getting smaller as they get higher, I think they will make the end of the year as well.

The building is now at 613', with 755' to go. 755' is the equivalent of 57 floors. So if they go at a rate of a floor a week, and keeping in mind that there's 52 weeks in 2011, then it'll still be around the first week of february 2012 before they finish. BUT... that's only if they go at a floor a week. Their pace may quicken.

don't forget that after completing all floors there is still the massive spire that needs to be done

And what about vacation schedules? In some countries the construction sector stops for a few weeks altogether. What's that like in the US?

They won't shut down the site for vacations.

By my calculations they have 42 floors to build in 50 weeks (The goal is to top out on or near the 41st anniversary of the topping out of the original North Tower, December 21st 2011). The 105th floor is the roof and there are no floors 94 thru 99. Most of the floors above the 88th are double hight, like the mechanical floors in the base.

PS: The spire doesn't count in the official topping out.

* 106 - Cooling tower catwalks
* 107-109 Communications Rings

Note: there are no floors 7-19 or 94-99.

The top platform of the communications ring is going to be 1,401' 5" above the lobby floor.

Random, but any idea how tall it's going to be around the end of February? I'm taking a weekend in NYC and wanted to know what to expect! Probably at or above 7WTC?

Nice closeups of the corner pieces. The stainless steel gives the cladding that little extra "pop".

...the US takes less vacation than any country in the industrialized world...not like those slackers in Europe! Only thing that will slow it down is weather.

I agree. Christmas period coincides with Summer in Australia so we usually take annual leave(2-3 weeks annual leave) to coincide with any Chrissy shut-down of work places, leading to the 'standard' 4 wks Summer break Down Under. It also helps in that if we want to travel anywhere outside of Australia(as is popular - we are a nation of born explorers!) we need the extra time just to get where we are heading thanks to the tyranny of distance. I was very shocked with my last gf(an lovely Okie) that she only got 2 weeks(Annual leave) over the year. what a jip Still while our economy is going gangbusters, unlike Europe, we can afford our little luxuries - like 4wks off a year!
