Thanks a lot! I'll be sure to grab some pics from ESB when I'm there!

1WTC is probably still not visible above 7WTC from the ESB.

Correct! Also quite visible from Top of the Rock too. I've already been up that observation deck however, so it's ESB for me this time! I noticed there's not a lot of pics from there, so I'll be sure to take many many!

This pic shows that 1 WTC has at least 6 or 7 floors to go before it surpasses 7 WTC.

In what way? It's nearly identical to that of the renderings. It only looks a little darker right now because its been pretty cloudy all winter.

By my calculations they have 42 floors to build in 50 weeks (The goal is to top out on or near the 41st anniversary of the topping out of the original North Tower, December 21st 2011). The 105th floor is the roof and there are no floors 94 thru 99. Most of the floors above the 88th are double hight, like the mechanical floors in the base.

PS: The spire doesn't count in the official topping out.

* 89-90 - Broadcast
* 91-93 - mechanical

* 102 Observation Deck
* 103-104 – mechanical floors
* 105 - Roof
* 106 - Cooling tower catwalks
* 107-109 Communications Rings

Note: there are no floors 7-19 or 94-99.

The top platform of the communications ring is going to be 1,401' 5" above the lobby floor.
Thanks for the info.

It reminded me of a facet of this tower which I had forgotten. That is, how this tower will effect communication networks. Just like one of the original twins, nearly everything in lower manhattan with an antenna, will be talking to this tower.

This will have an impact on everyday life for millions of people. For example, mobile phone coverage got set back with the destruction of the original WTC. And even 9 years later, coverage remains poor. Replacing the communications hub of a megalopolis isn't exactly easy, especially when it is already experiencing rapid growth. When the new facilities are finished, all the communications companies are ready to put up some serious longterm infrastructure investment.

It will be fun to read about all the gear that eventually gets installed!

10 floors to be exact. The next two should begin tomorrow.

The 62nd floor is the magic number to pass 7WTC.

66th and it will pass Woolworth.

72nd passes Beekman.

76th passes 40 Wall.

78th passes American International Building (tallest in Lower Manhattan).

101st passes ESB (tallest in NYC).

Out of curiosity, what about the World Financial towers? I know the 3rd shortest one is already smaller that 1WTC, but I don't think it's past the other two yet. correct?

Yup, it passed 1 and 4WFC.

55th floor passes 2WFC (645 ft).

Just remember that this tower uses ultra-clear glass, not reflective nor tinted, so the sunlight can iluminate perfectly the office floors. By using this type of glass, the energy costs are reduced in a huge percent.
1WTC is on its way to get a GOLD LEED Certification, and that's better than just having "shinny glass".
