Air China ties up with Avianca for SAmerica connecting flights
03.14.07, 10:48 PM ET

BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Air China said it has signed an agreement with South American carrier Avianca to offer customers of both airlines connecting itineraries between China and South America.

Late last year, Air China launched a service from Beijing to Sao Paulo, via Madrid, the first service between China and South America.

'This Avianca agreement underscores Air China's commitment to South America and showcases Air China's efforts to build a global network that is both attractive to passengers and emblematic of China's growing role in world trade and tourism,' the Chinese flag carrier said in a statement.

Avianca is based in Bogota and offers services to 20 destinations in Colombia and to 19 destinations in America and Europe, the statement said.

OceanAir begins operating in Luanda in March [ 2007-02-23 ]

Luanda, Angola, 23 Feb – Brazilian airline OceanAir is due to begin flights to Luanda on March 15, as it tries to create new international routes.

According to Angolan news agency Angop, which cites Brazilian tourism newspaper, Brasilturis, OceanAir will use a Boeing 767 to fly to Luanda, but gave no details about how often the flight would run.

The paper added that the company was planning further routes to Africa for the first half of this year.

As well as Africa, the airline plans to open up routes to some South American countries and to the United States.

In order to carry out this new project, OceanAir had to restructure its board and hire former professionals from the sector, the newspaper said citing company sources.

OceanAir is a Brazilian airline with headquarters in Sao Paulo and was set up in 1998 as an air taxi company to serve oil companies in the Campos basin in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2002 the company began a cargo business and is no considered to be the number one Brazilian regional airline, operating in 36 cities and 14 states in Brazil.

Colombian airline Avianca owns OceanAir and 49 percent of Ecuador's Wayraperu and Vipsa, as well as being a shareholder in Nigeria's Capital Airlines and OceanAir Taxi Aéreo.

Boeing, Avianca Airlines Announce Order for 10 787 Dreamliners

Boeing, Avianca Airlines Announce Order for 10 787 Dreamliners

30.03.2007 [08:19]

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and Avianca Airlines, Colombia's flagship air carrier, today announced the airline has ordered 10 787s, making it the first South American carrier to order the 787 and marking the largest 787 order to date for Latin America.

SEATTLE
-- The order, worth approximately $1.5 billion at list prices, was previously credited to an unidentified customer on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries Web site. Today's order also includes purchase rights for an additional 10 787s.

Avianca made the announcement at an event attended by German Efromovich, President of the Synergy group which owns Avianca, Avianca President Fabio Villegas and some 400 dignitaries including Colombian Vice President Francisco Santos Calderon, United States Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Milton Drucker, regional country representatives and Avianca and Boeing employees.

"This order reaffirms the enduring relationship Boeing has maintained with this historic airline for 70 years," said John Wojick, vice president, Sales, Latin America and the Caribbean -- Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "With the 787, Avianca will be able to provide its passengers with the very best in long-range air travel including larger windows, higher cabin humidity, more space and a lower cabin altitude."

"Today's purchase ratifies our commitment to transform Avianca into the leading airline in Latin America," Efromovich said. "We will be the first to offer passengers in our market the most advanced technology guaranteeing more comfortable and pleasurable flights."

Avianca is Colombia's largest airline and the second oldest commercial airline in the world.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, scheduled for entry into service in 2008, provides passengers with a better flying experience and operators with a more efficient commercial jetliner. Thirty-nine airlines have logged 491 orders worth more than $75 billion at current list prices since the 787 launch in April 2004, making the Dreamliner the most successful commercial airplane launch in history.

With the 787 Dreamliner, Boeing continues its leadership and innovation with a mostly composite airplane that consumes 20 percent less fuel, provides airlines with up to 45 percent more cargo revenue capacity and offers passengers a better flying experience.

Great news to hear Avianca will be the first latinamerican carrier to operate the B 787 Dreamliner.

Throughout its history, Avianca has flown Boeing aircraft most of the time.

70 Airbus aircraft for Avianca

70 Airbus aircraft for Avianca
30 May 2007

Colombia's national flag carrier Avianca is acquiring 70 Airbus aircraft, including 38 firm orders (33 A319s/A320s and five A330-200s) and 32 options (27 A319s/A320s and five A330-200s).

"With this order, Avianca will enter a new era in terms of advanced aircraft technology and passenger comfort", said German Efromovich, President of the Synergy Group which owns Avianca. "The A319s, A320s and A330s will offer our passengers the highest levels of travel comfort whilst allowing us to benefit from their unbeatable economics. On top of that thanks to the high level of commonality between the Airbus products, our pilots will be able to simultaneously fly the different aircraft which will further contribute to our efficiency."

Avianca is Colombia's largest airline and is also the second oldest commercial airline in the world.

"We are extremely proud and honoured to have been selected by this historic and prestigious airline for its fleet renewal" said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, "Airbus has come a long way in Latin America over the past decade and is now the leading aircraft supplier in the region. We are thankful for the endorsement by Avianca and we look forward to seeing our aircraft fly the skies in Avianca's colors."

Airbus currently has a fleet of 260 aircraft in operation in the Latin America. Since 1990 Airbus has taken 54 per cent of all Latin American orders for new aircraft. Furthermore, Airbus has tripled its presence in Latin America over the last seven years.

The A320 Family, recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family, also includes the A318, the A319 and A321 versions and features the newest and most modern design of any single-aisle airliner, with a passenger pleasing cabin that is popular with travellers - as independent surveys demonstrate. An advanced fuel-saving aerodynamic design, including wingtip fences, centralised maintenance with extended servicing intervals, and proven reliability in day-to-day service help to give it the lowest operative costs.

The A330-200 is the unquestioned leader in its class with continually expanding operator base. The A330-200 has excellent flexibility for a wide range of route structures, providing the operator with a very low operating cost per seat as well as the widest and most comfortable cabin in its class. Its proven record of superior economics and passenger comfort provides the operator with a significant competitive advantage in the market today.

Airbus is an EADS company.

Sorry, but I think its wrong to say Avianca owns Ocean Air, they are different airlines controled by Synergy Group, I know they are planning to unite both companies using Avianca´s logo and thats it, brazilian airlines cannot be owned by foreigners companies, is in the law.

About Synergy Group

Synergy Group is an evidenced credit-worthy Brazilian entrepreneurial conglomerate. Its strength lies in the oil sector, building, installing, and offerring maintenance to offshore oil platforms; it is currently carrying exploration work in Brazil, Ecuador, and Colombia. Other businesses include the extraction of gas in the United States; naval construction, telephony infrastructure, hydroelectric power plants, communications, and a hydrocarbons marine exploration company, which extends throughout nine countries with more than 5,000 workers.

It also owns and operates OceanAir, which services around thirty cities in Brazil, as well as VIP, an airline in Ecuador, Taxi Aero, a charter airline in Brazil, and the recently acquired Wayra in Peru, as well as Turb Serv dedicated to the maintenance of turbines.
