GOD BLESS OUR HOME LAND GHANA.. THE NEW AND OLD SEAT OF POWER IN GHANA. (RENDER AND PICTURE OF THE NEW FLAGSTAFF HOUSE).

http://www.youtube.com/v/9FCGXoIoibc&hl=en

The Danish Fort of Accra: Christiansborg Castle or Osu castle, was the headquarters for Denmark commercial activities on the Gold Coast and it still bears the monogram of King Christian VII. The earliest constructions are from 1661.

What the Colonials built: To protect themselves.

In 1850 the Castle was sold to Britain, along with all the other Danish forts and lodges. Today Christiansborg serves as the seat of government for the Republic of Ghana.

NOW... Since we (Ghana) gained independence in 1957 (apart from a short period in Nkrumah's time) this Fort has been our seat of power. Like the colonials our leaders have hid behind the thick walls and gates of this fort/Castle, isolating themselves from Ghanaians.

The current seat of power:

The gates of Osu Castle. Thou shall not enter!

You can look, but from far away...

UNTIL NOW! The new seat of power in Ghana is now moving to Flagstaff house.

The plan: Modern, new, shinning glass and reflective of the new aspiration of Ghana.

The actual development: Should be completed 4th Quarter this year.

Arzaranh, the design for Flagstaff house was done by an Indian company called Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. limited. They are also supervising the construction project with the aid of Ghanaian workers.

When the designs, costs and plans where first revealed there was an uproar in Ghana, mainly for point scoring by political parties and a suspicion that some corruption may have been involved in the awarding of the contract. Some people questioned why the design was been done by Indians. Questions were asked as to why a local Ghanaian architect was not used. Valid questions I guess, but whatever the reason the eventual design and impression of the project will be refreshing, stunning and modern in my view.

The original cost of the project was supposed to be approx. $40 million but that has nearly doubled leading to more cries of mislaid priority and corruption by the other political parties, though they have all stated that they will use Flagstaff House if they come to power too.

On the naming of the place, well the old flagstaff house was built by President Kwame Nkrumah and it was used by Nkrumah as his personal residence. I really do not know why Nkrumah's CPP named the place Flagstaff though.

When the current government decided to move from Osu Castle it only made sense to reuse this prime real-estate as the location of the new seat of power.
The project includes the President’s and vice president’s offices and residences and much more. In fact in order to accommodate all the elements in the complex and increase the land size, Accra Zoo was closed down and it will now be eventually relocated somewhere in Achimota forest.

Also, the original building (home) built for Nkrumah has been retained, renovated and incorporated to the overall plan as a Ghanaian heritage building.

Expensive or what? - Accra

Lighten your load... Splash the cash!

Yep, folks if you have a cool 250 to 500 thousand dollars to spend, why don't you buy one of the apartments in Villaggio?
There are a few left... Go on... you know you want to.

Villaggio is an ultra modern development from the same developers who developed the plush Trasacco valley estate.

Currently nearing phase 1 completion, Villaggio is situated in Tetteh Quashie, Airport Residential Area.
It is opposite the Accra Mall, The African Regency Hotel and President Kuffuor personal residence.

interesting....
actually i think that the overall design leaves a lot to be desired, but at least it does try to reflect traditional culture and that is what i'm so pleased with.

Had enough of the hussle and bassle of city life? Want to de-stress and relax?

Well why don't you visit White Sands the next time you come to Ghana.
White Sands is located less than hours drive from Accra, in the heart of the central region at Gomoa Fetteh. With its lovely white beach and total luxury, White Sands is worth every pesewa!
