Here, I love the way the new Ritz-Carlton gives the skyline this really nice stretch. For decades, (especially when I used to live there in my 20s) I wanted to see the Los Angeles skyline stretch this far to the southwest.

That's the direction that Downtown will expand to, which is wonderful of course.

Back in the 90's it was thought that it would go west on Wilshire, but the Staples Center changed all that (and the Blue Line).

^ But look at all that space to the east! There's enough room to rival Midtown Manhattan!

Yeah, (maybe not anymore) but there was this old mentality of staying away from the eastern part as to not get too close to the river for many reasons, the history of flooding (see how the heart of the city was moved from Olvera St. to Pershing Sq.).....and crossing the river historically meant you crossed into the "Latin" side.

Now who cares, which ever way it goes,...just go!!

That ever present Chevron tanker appears to be leaking. There was tar at the beach a few days ago and the water was off limits from the airport to Manhattan Beach pier.

nice one...looks pretty cool

Do they want to build more high rise or what?
The city of Tokyo does have more skyscrapers and they have earthquakes too and what Tokyo can do is for Los Angeles easy too

It's amazing how closely the lights in that image reflect population and employment density, although I do notice that San Diego looks relatively anemic.

To be fair, there are lots of canyons and gulleys in San Diego, so perhaps not possible to pack houses as densely as in LA...

Also, if it wasn't for the large military base inbetween, I think the whole area from LA to SD would quickly become a continuous urban area.

The proximity to I-10 makes the Ritz look much taller to commuters, relative to the other downtown buildings, than it actually is.
