I'd like to see a Photoshop of the Century City buildings as part of the DTLA skyline...As if Century City never happened.
I think Century City was a huge mistake. No freeway nearby, no transit nearby, it just makes for more of that Westside traffic. They should have built a huge park with a lake there instead of office buildings. If Los Angeles had to have a "second Downtown" it should be Mid-Wilshire or even Hollywood.

I love those airplane shots. They make it so easy though since any flights from the West or North make their turn nearly directly over downtown.

The day they stop building these so called 'centers' or plazas. Look at the centers to the north of the skyline (Cal Plaza, Wells Fargo, BoA) and compare it to the individual buildings towards the south, there's the answer.

Well, there was never any likelyhood of a park going up there. You forget that Fox studios nearly went under in the late fifties and had to sell its backlot in order to survive financially. That's what lead to the development of Century City. If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Elizabeth Taylor, if she had done a better job in her poor formance as Cleopatra, maybe Century City would never have happened.

I have no backup for this, but I would imagine that without Century City, much of the Westside that was rezoned for higher density housing, never would have happened or would have been delayed until who knows when.(ie Beverly Glen and Wilshire) There would probably still be a lot of R1 lots and be no different than the valley except for that it is closer to the beach. My girlfriend's grandparents both grew up on the westside in the 40s and 50s, and they both have told me that the houses that they used to live in are now apartment buildings. I would imagine that Century City was a catalyst for this. This lack of a central business district on the Westside would have created an even greater divide between the east and west sides of LA. Regardless of Century City though, there has been a lot of money and people on the Westside for quite some time. These people would have eventually created a centrally located business district somewhere. Hell, theres atleast 3 now. You've got Century City, Westwood, and the Water Garden and surrounding area in Santa Monica.
