So what that suppose to mean? Did they increase the height, or renders are just made poorly? And is that activity on site already preparation for the actual tower or is it just previous business occupying the site still operating?

btw regardless of the efficiency of that location I must say it really looks much better on the waterfront that on the original location.

It better be at least 3 meters above sea level or they will have to build a dyke around it. Sea level rise this century will be over 1 meter (IPCC ultra-conservative estimate) and more likely around 2 meters.

They have officially requested a permission for building 500m, but it was not said they planned a tower to be exactly this height. Also 400-462-472m height is being discussed. Here is a montage of an old and new renders, for comparison.

previous business still operating - it was a storage of sand.

Tower looks great, not a lot of skyscrapers around it. Maybe it will start a new Skyline of towers.

Perhaps the Okhta Centre should have been surrounded by a few other buildings that are shorter than itself in a Moscow-City-like district. With this tower, st. Petersburg will likely become the Taipei of Russia.

Yeah, it's very sculptural and will be stunning at that site.

A render of the old project on this plot does not make it viable, regardless if Gazprom has too many billions it needs to waste. The site is absurd. Are they going to build residential barracks for this office complex? Do they seriously expect people to commute to this location through the traffic nightmare that are St. Petersburg streets?
No, it's not. People of the city don't want to build it in the historical high-density center, it's people's choice.

And you really think that people will not commute to work in Gazprom, multi-billion dollar revenues company only if it will be located outside the city center and choose another company to work in?

Once again people want to preserve historical center of Saint-Petersburg, just think about this location as La Défense à la Russe.

This is a gross mischaracterization of the original location. Standing in the palace square the tower would have not been visible behind the local buildings since it is over 5 km away. La Défense is about 7.5 km away from the Eiffel Tower. The current location of the Okhta center is some undeveloped wasteland at water level (which is an idiotic location by this one parameter alone).

Maybe money is all you care about but this does not excuse the poor location. People will be forced to commute through the traffic nightmare that are St. Petersburg streets because some politician idiots pandered to a vocal fringe minority. Before you claim that the people of St. Petersburg wanted this you should produce some poll results.

I think there was nothing wrong with the original location. It was miles from Palace Square, and would have had no detrimental impact whatsoever on the historic core of St Petersburg. However I'm thrilled to hear the project is still alive, and still with the same absolutely stunning design. If it's built according to the design in the renders, it will be one of the most beautiful skyscrapers ever built anywhere. The most beautiful?? Possibly...

What´s the purpose of this tower? Is it going to be a new HQ for Gazprom? Cuz they already have a HQ in Moscow, which is really ugly for such a company

Last month, the Okhta Public Business Center, Gazprom’s subsidiary that is in charge of the project, announced the planned skyscraper would be even higher than the 403-meter one designed for Okhta, reaching 500 meters. The plans are to have the British architectural bureau RMJM’s original project of a spiraling glass tower reworked and extended.

this tower is just another case of the "my dick is bigger than yours" mindset thats been so prevalent behind the construction of all these new mega towers recently. not only that, but it is going to seriously mess with the image of Saint Petersburg as well. If they really wanted to transform sp into a city of skyscrapers, they should build smaller and then scale up eventually, not jump right into this monstrosity.

Also is that height of 472m final?
