are there more big towers like 200+ u/c in st petersburg?
I know it has a beautifull old town so they won't be building it near the citycenter.

Its construction is not linked with the WC. But if they continue as planned, it will be built before the WC. Probably not completed from the inside and thus not open for public though.

yes, "thanks" to UNESCO and lobby of "creative intelligence". they shoot down any initiative to build something tall, use the laws and legal assistance. I think they assume too much

Yet the district where Lakhta is being constructed is 10 km away from the historical part of the city and towers in that place cannot spoil the cityscape of the center. I agree with UNESCO that one of the last untouched pearls of Europe should be saved. But the measures they take are too strict and sometimes illogical. In these panoramas you can see some construction sites in the center. If they can build there, why can't they construct a new business center far from the historical sites? There are (relatively) strict rules for any construcrtion in the city center. Practically you cannot build anything looking different in the place of a historical building and, if you manage to find an empty spot you cannot build anything higher than a certain limit (the limit depends on how close you are to the center).

For example on one of these panoramas there is a spot where historical building is demolished to make a subway exit (Admiralteiskaya station). It's finished now: the facade of the building was completely restored, only insides were changed.

The rules are pretty reasonable, as far as I know there are much stricter rules in many historical European cities. You won't find any skyscrapers in the centers of Rome or Venice, for example.

What Infesus had said earlier about lobby againt anything tall is a misleading sentence. What really exists is a desire (supported by most people living here) to preserve a city center that's considered a monument and attracts millions of turists every year. And existence of relatively tall buildings outside of the city center just proves that there is no real lobby against skyscrapers - just build them in proper places. After all the highest tower in Europe is being built here.

What I really see is a lack of real projects of skyscrapers in St.Petersburg. You need money to build something really tall and money tend to concentrate in Moscow (with some rare exceptions like Gazprom).

it is not, because a huge number of high-rise projects was cancelled, and haven't gone through the Committee, guarding the monuments. although these buildings fit the height limit. almost all the rest have been cut in half. who's responsible for this? maybe the developers themselves are interested? I doubt.
survived only 2 really tall project - "Leader Tower" (139.8m) and "Prince A. Newsky" (124m), others reach 100m with an ugly spires. in Moscow everything is different. the problem is, and don't need to justify it

Yes.. thanks to UNESCO they shoot down any initiative to build any "great skyscraper" in the old city center, and preserve the only important city with incredible classic architecture, so it won't become a mess like London or Moscow.
