Definitely the most impressive skyscraper at the Baltic Sea so far!

Keep it going, St. Pete! Stay European, open-minded and leap ahead.

Little off-topic comment on one of the pics above - that's gotta be one of the coolest bridges I've ever seen.

This thing in no man's land is more ridiculous than all of the empty towers in Dubai.

Curious about access to the site so removed from the CBD. Any more insight on the transportation access from what wikipedia provides or the status of these projects:

"Lakhta Center's construction raises a problem of transportation development because of the expected growth of the traffic flow in the region. Two traffic circles are to be built near Lakhta Center. These will be one of the stages of the construction of the future М32А highway. The design of two traffic circles is pending approval of GlavGosExpertisa of Russia and the construction is expected to be started as early as this year. A light rail service from Finland Railway Station and a new tram line from Primorskaya underground station will be built to serve Lakhta Center. Plans are ongoing to build a new underground station with the working title of "Lakhta". Bicycle lanes near Lakhta Center with 90 parking places for bicycles are also planned."

You can blame UNESCO, the previous location was on more populated place.

The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards - and even then I have my doubts. Gene Spafford.
I am Basque, not Russian, the "Siberia" thing is a joke.

Well, actually not that much.
1) Gazprom and affiliated structures are renting lots of offices all around the city - there they would be in one place. So you will not need to spend 40min-hour to come to some meeting, just using elevator instead.
2) Traditionally, including soviet era, the district to north-west from this location was (and is) the most prestigious for private houses.
3) It just cannot be closer to save the historic skyline in the center of the city, so it would be anyway either grey industrial zone, grey industrial zone with grey commieblocks or this.

When it comes to the really ridiculous projects - the champion is nearby. This footbal stadium and related to it infrastructure.

It's owned by Gazprom. They and their subsidiaries have many offices around the city. They're going to be the main tenant. So this tower will NOT be empty.

Maybe you confused Dubai with your own rundown town of Baltimore

It will be a nice tower, but it looks like it will be built in a completely deserted area.
