So passing through YUL for the fourth time since Qatar started service there and noticed that the check-in counter is virtually empty every single time leading up to the flight. Still very surprised they opted to start YUL service first. Talking to one of the agents there, they were all very surprised as well and said it has been pretty slow since the service started. This reminds me of when Transaero started YUL before YYZ and ended up pulling out entirely.

Incidentally, on Pearson's website, it says Transaero is increasing service to YYZ but I can't find details as to what the increase is. Anyone who has info and can share, that would be great.

Well, I've flown Qatar on 4 separate flights into/out of Europe (Zurich, Milan, Paris, Madrid) and none were anywhere near full. But somehow those routes are still in place and they're still expanding.

It's optics in my opinion. They have the money to back up the fact that they fly half empty planes I suppose but their aggressive expansion makes it look like they're flying heavy loads. Plus, my hunch is that the vast majority of the pax from YUL are tourists and not the lucrative business passengers that subsidize empty aircraft.

Transaero have upgraded their flights to 744s, but this is only for the month of August, I believe...

Incidently, Cubana recently returned their leased A320s, and for the last couple of weeks have operating their regularly scheduled passenger flights to YYZ with Tupolev 204s - a very rare sight indeed..this in addition to their cargo flights, which are also operated with T204 freighters..

Btw I saw Air Transat time table for 2012 summer. There is no Spain and Greece from YYZ. They also had some DC10 operating for them this summer. Hmmm I have some feeling that they are going down.

It really seems like a slow year for route development at YYZ this year. Ethiopian is yet to announce a start date, MS will likely start by next summer, but other than that, has anyone heard anything else?

It is Greece and Spain that are going down, not necessarily Air Transat. I believe people may be avoiding these countries to an extent due to strikes and political / economic uncertainty therefore Air Transat may have found these routes riskier and shifted aircraft accordingly.

Overview of the terminal 1 and ATC from the motorway.

AC, AF, TS, PIA and Aerosvit at the T3.

The Trainlink that connects the terminals. The greenish building is the airport hotel at T3. A perfect place to nap if you are flying to Asia or Europe.
