AC isn't quite chasing VFR traffic given the small size and low frequency. As an example, it only began direct YYZ-PEK in 2005 with four weekly flights. Maybe, with India's economic growth, by 2020 it will operate daily to both DEL and BOM. There may not be the business connections to sustain YVR-DEL despite the obvious VFR traffic there.

The Northern Winter season traditionally has higher demand which is why AC is starting in Nov 2015. However, travel to India ex-YYZ is strong all year round. FYI Monsoon season typically starts in June.

I think initially there will be some growing pains, especially with the lack of brand awareness in India of Air Canada. AC would have been better served IMO by starting YYZ-BOM as the yields would have been higher and DEL is notorious for delays due to Winter fog.

In addition to the usual VFR pax, most people forget that there are very large IT Consulting firms operating in Canada and the US that have executives, workers shuttling back and forth e.g. TCS, iGate etc. AC may have secured some corporate accounts to bolster the yields. I suspect that this will go daily once enough B789s are delivered... which will give people a nice frequent option outside of the ME3, and without the need of transit visas for Indian nationals via LHR/FRA/AMS/CDG.

Surprised no one mentioned this one...

Beijing to Toronto in June 2015. 3x per week. Also to Montreal. With a tag onto Havana.

We knew it was coming, now we have a clue when.

Seems to me that the signing of the deal is imminent for the ME3.

Timing seems on the spot for the daily Emirates/Ethiad as someone was speculating.

There was talk of 7 for each. Can it be true?

Maybe Harper will okay it soon to allow the airlines to start service in the summer, to help retain Conservative seats with high South Asian populations. Just my conspiracy theory.

This forum is the only place where I have ever heard of a pending new Canada - UAE bilateral... there has not been even a hint this news anywhere else...

//just sayin'... I hope I am wrong and there is indeed one in the pipeline..

Also, with regard to Air China operating to YYZ... isn't there a "one Chinese airline per route" policy with the CAAC in China? This would mean that YUL could be possible for them, but PEK-YYZ is already taken by HU... are there any examples of more than one Chinese carrier on a single international route?

CA operates from PVG to SYD, MEL, FRA, and CDG in addition to MU. HU also operates PVG-SVO. It appears only CA is granted exception to the rule.

My sources have confirmed that the framework is in place for an updated bilateral. Although I believe they're a legitimate source, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info and I have heard it on airliners.net also. It all seems to be falling into place quite conveniently and tensions have eased so it would appear that it is coming or some kind of adjustment.

Either way, nothing is ever set in stone until it happens.

Just a quick note...for LAX and CDG, what was in the link I posted has been announced today. So it seems pretty sure that they are coming to Montreal and Toronto.

Very cool! A return of Aeromexico really.

Also just announced, SkyGreece will be flying Zagreb-Toronto during the summer of 2015.

Great news to see all this expansion for 2015!! Air Canada opening up YYZ-DXB really caught me by surprise, will they be going after O&D on the route whereas EK will stick to onward connections?

So what I see for 2015 so far is AC expansion, Skygreece to Zagreb, Aeromexico, Air China (possibly), and more China Eastern, hopefully this good news continues!

Looks like airlines like Aeromexico are expanding flights to Canada's largest city, and it shows that the airline industry is rebounding from its woes of 2001 and 2009... and by the way, if the airline is bold enough, Aeromexico could mount supplemental flights to cities like Guadalajara and Cancun so that more travelers can visit Mexico from Toronto.

As for Air China planning to tag a flight from Beijing to Cuba via Canada: looks like a very interesting proposition indeed, especially that Air Canada is doing quite a lot of such flights already. Perhaps the next step is for the United States to resume talks with Havana, solve their diplomatic concerns, and resume trade between the neighboring nations...

That is absolutely correct about AeroMexico commencing Toronto...

Btw, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton are in the pipeline of near future routes. We just had to wait for the official announcement from AM planning dept.
