lOh come on you really cannot sell off this new train line as a success story. It has been a disaster all the way. There have been several cases of electricity failures, the line had to be closed down two or three times in the past week because of this or storm damage, the online ticket system for this train line is more often off than working. And even when things are running normally there are still huge delays of 30 minutes or so.
As this line is tightly connected to the presidential election campaign, people ar ehushing up the problems as much as possible, but apparently the opening was premature and will continue to run off and on for a while.

And they wanted to open it in 2009...but still nothing to criticize for Erdogans worshippers. Even if the Train would't move one step those AKP folks, esp. Tekken, would clap and clap and clap....

The night Bus on this route needs 4:30 or 5 hours. So this train is for know not an alternative! Considering the fact that it runs from Suburbia to Suburbia makes it worse

Why do you guys want to turn this into a political issue?

High speed rail is THE best way to move people around and these new lines are great for Turkey. There may be some problems but these type of stuff can happen due to many reasons. It is not the most logical thing to jump to conclusion.

If anything, these infrastructure projects are waaaaaay delayed. An Istanbul-Ankara high speed rail line should have built decades ago.

It is not us who are turning this into a political issue. It is AKP and RTE who have to use state services for their political campaigns. Do you not find it indecent how a railway inauguration is fitted into an election campaign? Should not the progress of an infrastructure project decide on when it is opened for services rather than political opportunity? and the constant delays in the construction of this line - are they not an indicator that construction projects should not just be given to political friends but rather to experienced, professionla companies?
Believe me, this not a general criticism, there have been some projects in the past years that have found applause in the Turkish forum, there is nothing wrong with Eskisehir-Ankara, services have been working without much problems for years; there is nothing much wrong with the konya lien either; but this inauguration of the Pendik line was obviously premature.

This line has been constructed and financed by foreign companies, this loan money would be paid by turkish taxpayers,so government have to do best quality line, but they just did classical turkish work,a non-finished,very slow high-speed train.

I agree, but what we see in Turkey is not qualitatively different from what we've seen in a number of other countries. Greece opened a number of railway and tram projects in and around Athens just before the Olympics, well before they were finished and tested, for the sake of political expediency. Several Spanish high-speed lines have been subject to (1) outright ministerial lies maintaining that they were on track for opening on time even as the opposite was evident; and (2) premature openings to save face for the politicians.

What is perhaps new in this situation is the fact that, rather than acting defensively to avoid political controversy, Mr. Erdogan seems to use the Eskesehir-Istanbul line offensively for immediate political gain. The only time I recall seeing something similar was when the Russians made a big noise about their path-breaking new Sapsan line between Moscow and St Petersburg (which was nowhere near being ready for passenger service). But wait.... surely no one would accuse Mr Erdogan of modeling himself on Mr. Putin?

Well, that is what ALL politicians does. It is hardly special for Erdogan or Putin.

Anyhow, it is not that important for me. Important thing is there is a high speed line between Ankara-Istanbul. Hopefully, there will be a direct line in the future without the detour from Eskisehir. And that line will be built at a higher standard like Chinese 350km/h ones (balastless truck, 7000m turn radius etc...).

Then I assume you never heard or don't remember the story of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the iranian railway line from Ispahan to Shiraz ?

Does anyone know how the connection to the existing terminus in Ankara will be? Heard a few years before that the old building will serve as a hub for suburban lines and all non high-speed trains and the new building will serve just the new High-Speed trains...

Edit: the brown building is the existing Terminus-will it have two main entrances?

Its not appropriate for 'republic's Ankara,
but may be appropriate for Tayyip's...

Looks like a cross between the AGV and the Zefiro 380.
