The concrete core, including the 4 extra floors for the mechanical penthouse, will probably top out around 11/27/2016. They were going at a floor every four days (a little less than 4 days actually), but the reconfiguration for the smaller core is taking an extra 5 days for the first floor, and there are three more floors to go, until the self rising core assembly is complete. So, based on previous rates, add 20 days to 11/7/2016 (previous projection), and I get 11/27/2016.

That's what I see in the hole in the photo, so it may well have.
Cal_Escapee, do you have a similar diagram that would show the reduction of the core by 50% that was just completed in the last 2 weeks?

It will be so different from the buildings around it.. can't wait to see it completed!!

And from the areal pic.. it seems to me that SF's downtown is missing some greens.. no? And maybe no just the downtown area.. so grayish

I'm not so sure about greens. My only gripe is that I wish there were a few more 1000 feet tall buildings than just 1. I know there is a lot of regulations in SF given that it is earthquake country and it is harder to build extra tall buildings. Even with all that said, I would put SF's skyline 3rd best in the US behind NYC and Chicago.

I hope they have a observation deck for this building. I don't get why SF doesn't seem to have observation decks like other major cities for tall buildings or structures or am I wrong?

The only dedicated observation deck (aside from the DeYoung Museum which is cool but doesn't have much of a city view) is Coit Tower:

SFMTA

But there are a few bars and restaurants that you can visit with a good view, and these are basically SF's stand-ins for a true observation deck.

I'm a fan of the View Lounge at the Yerba Buena Marriott, not least because of the steampunk-y windows:

The View

The Top o' the Mark at the Mark Hopkins Hotel sits at the top of Nob Hill, right at the border between downtown and the older masonry buildings that give the northern hills so much character:

Travel Japan Blog

The best for my money was the now-closed Carnelian Room at the top of 555 California, which is now home to a video game developer:

Susan Seubert

As for Salesforce... I would not hold out much hope for an observation deck. That office space is just too valuable. And that's the kind of thing that would normally have been announced long ago in the hype build-up for the tower. Best thing is to either visit one of the above establishments for a cocktail, or find some friends with a roof deck (or in my case, friends whose fire escape leads to the roof, and pretend like it's an actual deck).

I ate at the Carnelian Room years ago. You used to be able to go about half way up the Transamerica Pyramid years ago too, not sure if that is still open ...........

Aren't there a NIMBYs in SF who hate shadows?

I'd also put Seattle and Philly ahead of SF.

I don't know about Seattle cause there are no buildings taller than 1000 feet and fewer high rises than SF but it has a gorgeous surrounding. Philadelphia, really? I think the skyline of Philly looks ugly.

Observation Decks make crazy money ... its bizarre that they didn't include one in the tallest building in San Francisco.

Yup, it is disappointing that there probably won't be a observation deck in this building. There should be more observation decks for SF considering how gorgeous the city is. Too bad there isn't.

Gorgeous photos. Looks like Salesforce has surpassed the former Bank of America building in height now.
