agree. Despite the opinions that its not original or new, yadda, yadda, yadda,IMO the design is perfect for San Francisco's skyline, everything about it fits i think

Some news about the incredible lighting installation for this tower:

http://commissions.sfplanning.org/cp...12.0257EBX.pdf

I never thought I'd be jealous of another city for their new tower. Way to go SF. Hope I can visit some time.

Looking good. Been to SF when I was younger. Amazing city, fantastic vibe. This tower's a great centre piece for downtown

Is this a done deal for sure or just a proposal?

the next to last paragraph in that linked City of SF notice answers your question and reads ( I added the highlighting CAPS ) :

"
The sponsor is required to provide public art valued at 1% of the construction cost of the building. The Site Permit indicated a construction cost of $336,200,000, so the sponsor must spend at least $3,362,000 on the art program.

Both the tower AND THE ART are currently under construction. To date, the sponsor HAS SPENT approximately $4.5 million on the art installation, which equals approximately 1.35% of the total construction cost. The sponsor has also allocated an additional allowance of approximately $1 million to complete installation, which would result in a contribution of approximately 1.66% of the total construction cost. "

My, God. And that's where the costs come from. Look at that huge report all to provide info on a mandated and minor aspect of one building.

I guess it kept someone at City Hall employed for a few days, or weeks.

This thing is huge and the fact that it's getting completed soon along with the sister building (181 Fremont) is just almost unreal

I love the fact that the crown is as big as it is (as we can see in the pictures). It gives an impression that people do care about the design and the overall aesthetic of the building. If the crown was smaller I think the building wouldn't have looked nearly as good, especially when you take in consideration how the building interacts with the rest of San Francisco's urban fabric.

I love that the crown will have amazing lighting now. I'm still pissed that there is no observation deck though. A building like this should have an observation deck. But that is me.

do you live in the SF area ? and esp if not , why should its ommision be affecting one so personally to be angrily " pi*^ed " -yikes / lol ......as I prev posted , imo , very few of us living here in SF Bay Area are interested in observation decks , even our many visitors have very little , if any , desire to ascend to the several top-floor sky lounge bars ....otoh , locals and especially our visitors ALL want to go to that free under the sun or stars natural " observation deck " looking way DOWN to the skyscrapers, incl Salesforce : Twin Peaks , for its iconic near and far views and memento picture opportunities :

we are not pancake flat like Chicago or Manhattan where skyscraper observation decks are a MUST in order to get ( elevated ) views of nearby buildings and far off distances

Yes, I live in the SF Bay Area. Well, there are observation decks in non "pancake flat" places like LA and Hong Kong and Seattle in their tallest buildings.

Oh you know they're going to film an action movie up there at some point. Perfect setting.

The views from the top of the tower would be unique and different than Twin Peaks ... the people that allowed this tower to rise without an Observation Deck should be fired and never have a job in development again.
