I really don't care for San Francisco, but the skyline is very nice.

LOL! I wonder what the Jury's Panel were thinking? I guess they were all astonished by the Pelli's Park LOL! I bet they just like the cheaper price, simple design and the convenience of transportation. I am still going for SOM. It's just too unique and beautiful and it totally fits San Francisco.

I could understand boycotting China for their unfair trade pratices and human rights abuses, but I think its kind of silly boycotting France for their opposing our foreign policy in the middle east.

Pelli's highrise design is hardly iconic, let along unique since he's used it on so many other similar buildings. It would be a unimaginable that it would be picked over something (SOM) that would be instantly recognizable and it would be a huge loss for the city.

Don't worry about him he has no idea what he is talking about.

According to our own Federal Governemnt statistics imports have increased from France to the United States every year since the beginning of our attack on a country that had no links to 9/11, no WMD, and no links to Al Qaeda. That year is 2002.

Well, i prefer Pelli's project overall. That curly walk with palmtrees is very nice, and the tower looks amazing. SOM's is very cool too, but the horizontal phase is not so interesting IMO, the bad part is its covered. Dont know, one of this two will fit very well in SF. Richard Rogers' just NOT.

This is what I got from the article.

Quote:
There's now a front-runner in the race for the rights to build what could be the West Coast's tallest building: a proposal that includes an obelisk-like, 1,200 foot office tower next to a terminal topped by a park the length of five football fields.

Another selling point: the developer offers to pay $350 million for the land where it would erect a 1.8 million square skyscraper - more than $200 million above the sales price offered by the other two design-development teams.

....

The second highest score went to a team that paired developer Forest City Enterprises with renowned English architect Richard Rogers and his firm. That proposal includes a futuristic erector-set-like glass tower framed in steel and a purchase price offer of $145 million.

The lowest ranking went to a team consisting of Rockefeller Development Group Corp. and the local office of the architecture firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill. This team proposed the tallest tower, a 1,375-foot high rise that would twist and narrow as it rises. The sales offer was $118,440,700.

I can't believe SOM got beaten in their own home turf. That must be totally saddening especially to their fans.

San Fran needs a few more babies for a skyline at its size.

OMG so they will choose the one associated with the HUGEST BRIBE!!!!!

That is so sad!!!!! So we get to see 2IFCGoldmanSachs instead of the most unique tower design ever????

Damn Pelli should use the Petronas design instead of 2IFCGS

What?

Okay....Pelli's was good, it just wasn't the most unique design. The majority here wanted SOM, but what can you say, now that it's said and done. All I can say is; at least it wasn't Roger's design.

Pelli's tower will be beautiful once built. SOM's tower would have been stunning, but I'll take beautiful.

i think Pinkie said it right. If this building had no competition people would love it. its just its misfortune to be staked up against a truly unbelievable building.
