Like was said before, there's an event space on the top floor that will occasionally be open to the public. So its not like there's absolutely no way to get up there and take in the view. But yeah it would be nice if there was an actual observation deck.

The height is actually because of an ordinance that limits the amount of shadow that can fall on public parks/plazas (those built before the ordinance was passed). That's why the tower was chopped down from 1200'. Though honestly, i think a 1200' tower would have dwarfed the rest of the skyline a little too much, and ended up looking awkward. It fits in really well at its current height, IMO.

Too bad then. Having that great bay area, those bridges, all the landscape would be very attractive to have an observation deck, on this tower or any other in the city.

This looks astronomically similar to Seoul's Lotte tower from this angle

Another gorgeous photo of SF. To me, both the Transamerica Pyramid and Salesforce Tower look taller than their height would indicate.

Did they ever release any renders or images of the 1200' proposal?

Wow, this would've been spectacular at the originally proposed 1200ft!

The top floor of the tower (as seen in the pics above) basically is an observation deck. It's a public event space with 360 degree views of the city...the specifics of how/when it will operate aren't finalized yet though.
