OK, I'm confuse. Clarify me on this. The Panel Jury don't choose which is which. So who are they? Are they totally different from the Actual you mentioned? So who are these actual people? Clarification please.

from what i understand the transbay authority or whatever they are called are the actual people who choose and vote on it. they are a quasi democratic sort of public body from what ive read so there's a heavy lashing of politics involved.

they picked a jury of architecture and development pros to whittle it down and these people will then give the board their recommendation. this isnt the only input the board will recieve as there are other things like the citizens committee who are meeting tonight.

the decision for the authority will be highly political. people wont simply think about the best or worst design but about public opinion and about maintaining their positions in it. the jury decision is not final, only the board makes a final decision and they have the power to disregard the jury. whether they do is another thing.

these are the actual people who make the decision -

this is why skyscrapernews has not run anything on the decision. it has not been taken yet!

Impressions:

1. SOM - Stunning, a cathedral for tower dorks everywhere.
2. Pelli- Public space looks very ethereal, tower feels a bit "meh".
3. Rogers - Barad-dur by the Bay.

For me its between Pelli and SOM. The first one is just bad, looks evil, please throw it into the bin.

I prefer SOM's design, but somehow Pelli's fits in with SF skyline best, perhaps the subtle reference to Transamerica.

Just been on Skyscraperpage and they're saying in highrise proposals that Pelli's design has been chosen at a final height of 1,200 feet.

To be honest with you Pelli's design isn't too bad, I just wish it was 200 feet taller. I think the board want something they see as being financially viable for now, I just hope we don't end up with a disappointment.

SOM remindes me of the new SFO international terminal. if Pelli's gets built we can only hope for its destruction by a massive earthquake.
