I know its in bad taste but I kind of agree with what the previous poster said about Bil Ladin. this was a once in a Century opertunity for SF and they blew it. the Pelli tower is verry genreic adn the terminal is tacky. I pray for an economic collapse in SF to stop the monstrocity.

"With a voting sample of 2882, SOM is beating Pelli in the SF Gate polls by 41%- 37%. The SF population clearly prefers SOM over the simple Pelli design, which is a very good thing! With a building like SOM's in our skyline, we can recapture our prominence in the world and finally have a graceful, world class skyline.
The problem with the skyline now is that all of the propositions and opposition in the past to tall towers created a weird table effect that sloped down to one side, very unsightly from most angles and not pleasant to the eye. This tower would beef up our city into one of the most dynamic skylines in the world. And I LOVE that SOM is based in SF, which means they probably have a better chance of winning, politics wise."

"Was any part of the Transbay recommendatoins concerned with seismic safety? It seems like the use of Redundancy in SOMs proposal would be the safest in an earthquake. Oh, and anybody check out Al Gore's movie? Within most of our lifetimes, this area of SF will be underwater, so I wonder what we plan on doing about that? I say, let the streets fill with water and turn it into a little Venice."

Do you have to make such a huge quantity of posts? Why not condense them into fewer, larger posts. Use the edit button please.

Maybe he's trying to rack up is numbers? Or perhaps he's reporting on different subjects. Doesn't bother me. Now if his name was Daquin 13 on skyscraperpage and the discussion was the rebuilt WTC I'd tend to agree.

Nah. He is just trying to bump this thread due to his big disappointment of not getting the SOM pick. But what can I say? SOM is better than the other three.

I'm alright with the Pelli design. It's not as great as the SOM tower but I can live with it. The whole purpose of building a 1000+ ft building is to fund the construction of the terminal next door and they offered a lot of money. Plus we still have the 1000+ ft Renzo proposal across the street. By the way this thread was originally for the Renzo towers not the Transbay tower.

its not that the tower for Pelli is bad but it was suppost to be SF's new signature tower and there isn't room for another. the terminal was ment to be the Grand Central of the west and it looks like a tacky shopping mall that belongs in Orange County. This was a once in a Century opurtunity adn they blew it. what scenarios will halt the project?

I don't think that is the final design the Pelli team still have work to do. that enterance is the worst part the glass conopy is asymetrical and supported by these things that look like tree branches. the gandolos are kind of tacky. it looks like they used hardwood floors inside the terminal. its a train station not a Banana Republic!

I think there will be a underground connection to the Embarcadero BART Station. It might be a future station if there's a second Transbay Tube.

As for the Renzo towers, there hasn't been any renderings, only models of how tall and skinny the towers might be. This proposal has been quite since the Transbay towers competition started.
