Yeap, at least two trench cutters at work. Building up the bathtub foundation. Wonder if they go conventional or top down with the foundations?

Due to the seismic requirements of San Francisco, foundations here are very substantial and take quite a long time to construct--about 18 months for a building of this size. They are now about 6 months into it so we aren't likely to see anything rising above the ground for another year. That fits into the timetable the developer has proposed: Completion in 2017 simultaneous with the terminal project of which it is a part. It will probably take about 2 years to construct the above ground structure.

I don't know the timetable for Wilshire Grand but the photos I've seen suggest to me it is farther along and so will probably be finished first.

On the other hand, in San Francisco this building will not be lonely. Within a block in 2 directions are an 800 footer (q.v. 181 Fremont) and a 900 footer (q.v. 50 First St.) The 800 footer should be finished in 2016. The other will be last and is still in the design phase.

The video is all too realistic in that respect.

Here's a clearer timetable for the SFT:
Quote:
Below-ground construction started last December, and the team has nearly completed the foundations. Clark and partner Hathaway Dinwiddie will start excavation in August, and they plan to finish the three-level, below-ground parking lot in first-quarter 2015. At that point, they’ll start the vertical construction of the tower’s 61 floors, which they expect to complete at the end of 2016.

Realistic?

Because according to you, everyone who will work in that tower does everything with an obnoxious smug-face on, while moving in obnoxious slow-motion, while a cheesy soundtrack plays in the background?

And you sound as if you will be one of them. Do you ever smile at anything?

I smile at things all the time, like when you claim that a cheesy advertising video is "all too realistic".

No need to get mad though. For the record the people in the video annoyed me too

I was downtown today and noticed that the cranes with the big round wheels on the top were not on site anymore. Maybe they are starting the next stage of foundation work?

if those cranes are gone, then the slurry wall(s) must be complete, which means excavation will quickly follow, the "big round wheels" on the cranes are spools for the hydrolic hoses for the narrow clamshell bucket that the crane is lowering and lifting, the spools are spring loaded to keep the hoses from kinking

Thanks for that info. I think the excavation will probably take 4 to 6 months so sometime early next years they should start pouring the lowest levels and start upward. Time consuming unfortunately!

I believe you're referring to Heller Manus's 181 Fremont. Fits nicely next to Millennium Tower, and along with its two taller neighbors will be redefining highrise construction in SF.

Judging by the rendering you posted and by its small footprint, 181 Fremont is actually far less boxy:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=747464

This is an 800 ft building on a lot 140 ft square.

As the piece I posted in its thread points out, the site is so tight they are having trouble handling the over 200 ft sections of rebar for the pilings that will anchor it to bedrock.
