So is there any word of this being held up over the taxing district?

Bummer. Thanks for the webcam, though.

But isn't the official roof itself.

Still no digging huh? Strange :/

They're definitely still working on it though. There's a lot of activity on site, and excavation should start relatively soon. It seems like it's going slow, but it's not exactly a typical construction site. First they had to build dozens of caissons gong nearly 300' deep, in order to anchor the building to the bedrock, and spent many months doing that. And If I remember right, they had to do it before excavating because having the giant pit for the terminal building directly next door to another giant pit complicates things. I might be remembering the details wrong though...maybe someone else knows for sure.

It appears to be making no difference as far as the tower is concerned (unlike the terminal) as work is continuing at full speed on the Transbay tower site. Workers there seem to confirm this too.

As reported by Larkspirit on SSP:

Quote:
I stopped by the Salesforce Tower construction site on Wednesday (Oct. 8) and chatted up one of the two guys who were directing traffic in and out of it on Fremont St. I asked him if the financial problems with the Transbay project were having any effect on the pace of construction. (As I was talking to him, I could see that activity on the Salesforce site was going full-tilt.)

He pointed south and said, "Thats' next door's problem, not ours," referring to the adjacent big dig where they're prepping the Transbay terminal site.

Just to make sure, I asked him, "So that means work here is fully underway?"

"Yep."

Now I know that talking to a hard hat on the lowest rung of the totem pole is not exactly the word from on high. Still, I figured that since he had to show up at work and direct all the heavy traffic coming in and out of the construction site, something's gotta be up.

It looks nice, but 50 First street (on the right) is in the wrong location. It should be farther back, behind that white skyscraper that the rendering has it in front of. It's also showing the old design.

I don't think that's right. The "white skyscraper" is the Millenium Tower and what you see that makes 50 First appear to be in front of it is the wierd shaddow-like texture of its skin. Anyway, the shown design of 50 First certainly isn't the old "bamboo forest". I think it's a version of the new design.

The white building I was referring to was 50 Fremont, not the Millennium tower. You can see it behind 50 First in that rendering (they put 50 First in between millennium and 50 Fremont, when it should be behind both of them). It's a good-looking location for 50 First, just not correct, and I think it might screw with traffic a little if they decided to put it there

50 First, 50 Fremont...hope no one's confused

Just like Cal Escapee said in a previous post, the foundations of such a large building being built in a sesmically active area would require a lot of extra engineering and strengthening too which might explain why the ground works seem to be taking quite a long time. It is going to be a great addition to the skyline - I do like SF - been there twice and the city has a really nice feel about it.

Looking forward to see this rise to the top. SF is my favorite californian city. Good memories.
