Yeah, I'll admit that I'm a little impatient cause I would like to see a building that is taller than the Transamerica Pyramid already in the SF skyline. There is no doubt that the Transamerica Pyramid is nice, but I wish it was up already for another great SF landmark.

They appear to be doing a massive foundation pour this weekend. Took this screengrab from the construction cam just minutes ago. You can see 2 concrete pumpers and about 3 concrete trucks on-site but also the big round pit they had dug in the center of the foundation, with some of the piers in the middle of it, now appears to be close to full of concrete:

No, more like 2 years: End of 2017 is over 2 years away.

I'll admit I am more than patient with this building, but 2017 seems a bit unreachable to me.

While it is true that once at grade they shoot up pretty quickly, the Wilshire Grand is also expected to be completed by 2017, albeit a bit earlier in the year. That building is already at around 60 floors above ground though. Is it possible for this tower to somewhat catchup and finish same year?

Not to point out the obvious but a year is a year long. One could finish in January, one in December. I have no idea when Wilshire Grand will finish and I don't care. This isn't a race in my mind or that of anyone around here. But the CEOs of Boston Properties (Mort Zuckerman) and Salesforce.com (Mark Benioff) are used to getting what they want and Benioff wants his HQ while Zuckerman wants to start collecting rent and both say the building will be ready along with the adjacent terminal in 2017. That seems highly likely.

And in San Francisco it is not unusual for a building of this size to spend about half the construction time on the all-important foundation.. Finally, the building's Facebook page says "Watch us rise in 2016." I think that's just what we'll be doing.

The Wilshire Grand should really finish construction by the end of 2016 and open in 2017.

I was in San Francisco last week and saw the green pumps in action. I can't wait to see this one rise, and hopefully I'll be back one day when it's done.

Look at the Wilshire Grand Center building in LA. It looks like it is about 50% done and it says it will open in 2017. This building says it will open in 2017 but it looks like it hasn't even started construction above ground yet. There is no way it will be finished by 2017.

Friendly reminder to all - The ground in DTLA is much more stable than in DTSF!! Because of this, they had to dig MUCH deeper, and pay much more attention to creating a stout foundation that wont sink even in a huge quake.

Once this whole structure officially pokes far up enough above ground, you are going to see things really speed up and my guess is that it will be reminiscent of the WG in DTLA when it gets to that point.

Was that same thing (the deep excavations) done when the Transamerica Pyramid was built?

Wow, still no construction above ground? Now there is truly no way they will get this done by 2017. Maybe it will take till the end of 2018.

Hah, given all the facts, I would say this:
1. I would be pleasantly surprised if this was built at current height at all.
2. Even if built, this will not likely be totally completed before 2020 or beyond.

It might be topped out at the end of 2018, certainly not open for business until 2020 though.

I think they will be built at the current height. It will probably be delayed about a year.

You guys keep saying that this tower is taking so long because they had to dig much deeper than the Wilshire Grand. Wilshire Grand wasn't a picnic either. And it had a much larger footprint. As for depth, it seems about the same to me. Strange how these started around the same time and Wilshire Grand is already about to push 800 feet.
