of course! closing was so stupid: discussion would continue on cro motorways and we escaped from there. and there was no politics or some arguments for closing

The thing is the discussion here and in the Motorways thread is bound to repeat itself.

No emergency lane? no separate lane for bicycles?

the bridge is going to be a part of fast road (reserved only for vehicles with engines), so no need for bicycle lanes. and emergency lane - it's not a part of motorway, although it is allways nice to have it. probably there will be few emergency stops.

The central aspect of the bridge are 2 pylons rising 170m above sea level or 115m above the roadway. Therefore the central part of the bridge will be cable suspended.

The deck will sit 55m above sea level as agreed with Bosnia.

There will be another 10 supporting piers in its construction along with the two huge pylons.

It is expected construction will take 3-4 years at a projected cost of 200-220 million euros.

The distance between the two central 170m tall pylons is 568m making this the second widest suspension bridge in Europe!

Construction starts next year, therefore in the summer of 2007!
Why was it only 55 metres above the sea level? I read that the sea level will rise some 14 metres in the next few decades, due to the melting of the ice in the poles and the Adriatic won't be en exception. That leaves only 41 metres give or take above the sea level. I think they should go as high as 69 metres, just in case.
