The Havanna-Bejucal-Güines line opened in 1837, and the Barcelona-Mataró line opened in 1848, so that´s less than 20 years.
And that was 61 years before 1898, when we lost Cuba, Puerto Rico, Philippines and Guam.

Nothing´s been heard of that project for long now.
I guess it must have been sent to the drawer.

The only railway-like thing we´ve recently heard about the Canary Islands is a possible new extension of the Tenerife tramway, that´s all.
And they´re not even sure of where to take that extension, they are planning three possible options.

Yes, that's true. Prety unknown history. In 1837, only after UK, Ireland, Belgium and Germany; and at the same time than Austria.

France:

1) Saint Étienne-Andrézieux opened in 1827 for freight, in 1832 for passengers, and now it is part of the Saint Étienne-Le Coteau (next to Roanne) line.

2) Givors-Rive de Gier (on the Lyon Perrache-Saint Étienne line) opened in 1830 for freight and passengers.
The whole line from Lyon Perrache to St Étienne Châteaucreux opened in 1832.

3) Paris St Lazare-Le Pecq opened in 1837. The section Nanterre Université-Le Pecq now belongs to the RER A.

News!!

Upgrade of the Seville-Cadiz line.

The second track in Puerto Real will enter service on April 27, so from then on, the only section remaining in single track will be Las Cabezas de San Juan-Utrera.

New connection between Valencia-Fuente de San Luis and Valencia-San Isidro stations.

This will have three consequences:

1) Commuter trains to/from Utiel and Buñol, which terminate at Valencia-San Isidro since the HSL Works started, will be allowed to reach again Valencia-Nord station, although for some time they´ll have to reverse at Valencia-Fuente de San Luis.

2) Regional trains to/from Cuenca, Aranjuez and Madrid will be allowed to reach again Valencia-Nord station, although for some time they´ll have to reverse at Valencia-Fuente de San Luis.

3) Freight trains will have an alternative route through the new line till Benifaió-Almussafes, which will relieve the congested section between Valencia and Silla.
This new route, which runs parallel to the HSL Valencia-Xativa-La Encina junction, is in single track, and will recieve the third rail in standard gauge one they start to expand the standard gauge south of Valencia into Alicante and Murcia.

Meanwhile, in the Aranjuez-Cuenca--Valencia classic line, in the section between Cuenca and Utiel...

The video has been filmed in a class 592 DMU, on a service bound for Cuenca and Aranjuez (and Madrid?).
The station seen is Camporrobles (still in the Valencia province).

Indeed. I NEVER put my feet on the seat, and the passenger does even put his shoes on it!!

So shocking.

My God.

The best example I've seen of lateral accelerations in railway due to bad track alignement.

This is one of the main parameters that HSR tries to minimize.

I´ve seen worse, but the classic line between Cuenca and Utiel is really in need of an upgrade.

The problem is that its survival isn´t very clear...

A little bit comparing apples and oranges... Those two lines used only
horse traction, the first till 1844, the second till 1836.

Both lines started operating with steam power before Barcelona-Mataró opened in 1848, and one of them, before Havanna-Güines opened in 1837.

And then there´s Paris St Lazare to Le Pecq, which opened in 1837 with steam, iirc.

It also shoked me at first but it seems that he put something under his shoes to avoid spotting the seat and being the only one in the whole car I don't consider it that censurable.

The older members might perhaps remember class 597 DMUs, known as TER:
