They arrived at Renfe in 1964, made in Italy (by Fiat), and btw, they´re the only Italian trains in Spain that have done ok.
Back then, they were revolutionary, and in the beginning they did the fastest long-distance routes, but later on they were destined to regional lines.
They were withdrawn in the 1990s, when they had become obsolete.
I took it only once when I was a kid, but I remember it as a very comfortable train.

The one in the pics above has been preserved by a Madrid association, and it will be the star of a new heritage train in northern Madrid, on the Madrid-Aranda de Duero-Burgos classic line.

It seems that the route will start at Madrid-Chamartín, calling at Bustarviejo, Valdemanco, Lozoyuela, Garganta de los Montes, Gargantilla de Lozoya, Navarredonda-San Mamés, and will have Gascones-Buitrago as terminus.
Adif technicians have discouraged the idea of carrying on to La Serna del Monte, La Acebeda and Robregordo-Somosierra due to the bad state of the infrastructure beyond that point, but it hasn´t ruled out that in the future the route could be extended.

Barcelona-Tarragona classic line.
Between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Torredembarra stations.

A Talgo IIIRD trainset, travelling from Barcelona to the Talgo workshop in Las Matas (Madrid), where it will be restored, possibly for another heritage train.

News!!

The British company National Express, through its moniker ALSA, will compete with Renfe in rail transport.
Not just in HSR, but also regional rail and commuter services.
It could start operating in the second half of the present year.

Source: Diario Información (in Spanish).

The ministry seems to have reserved some trains (currently owned by Renfe) to create a ROSCO.
More data will be available as soon as we have them. They´re being a bit mysterious and secretive about it.

There´s another company that has got a license to operate (as far as I know, on HSR alone, I´m not aware yet of any other license for classic rail), and it´s called Veloi Rail, it´s the railway moniker for Vueling. But in that case, I´m not aware wether they want to start operating this son or not.
Besides, Veloi Rail obviously lacks the experience in railways that National Express has.

Tarragona-Valencia line.
Tres Camins crossing loop (between Port Aventura and Tarragona stations, near La Pineda).

A special Arco train, created to take FC Barcelona supporters to the Spanish Cup final, which was played in Valencia (and which FC Barcelona lost).
Class 252 plus six Arco coaches, leaving Tres Camins bound for Valencia.
Tres Camins has never seen any passenger train calling, it´s always been a crossing loop.

Palencia-Santander line.
Palencia station.

On one of the sidings at Palencia, a class 333 loco, and some machinery.
I´m not very sure wether they´re working at the Palencia station upgrade for the HSL, or in the upgrade of the Santander line.
Note that the class 333 is not Renfe´s.

Santander-Oviedo line.
Colombres station.

At Colombres station, right at the end of the west side of the platform, there´s this mysterious short section in dual gauge (Iberian/metric).
We´re still working out the reason why it´s there...

VERY RARE. Uploaded in 2008.

Is the line over the viaduct going to be single track or double track? From this angle it looks very narrow, but perhaps just a photo effect.

Double track. Consider that the upper concrete slab for the tracks will be wider than the trusses frame.
