Thanks 437.001 for the detailed info, as K mentioned above, do you think is technically feasible a service like a s130 from Murcia crossing the French border up to Paris, what is more, adding Talgo tren hotel cars?

would SNCF let spanish high speed trains running free on the other side of the border? I´d love to see that...

hey Inter88

lets stick to english alright

I´ve got two maps that will probably help you....

extracted from the link Arriaca has provided above, that pdf is plenty of maps about the Spanish network.

These below are related to max speed and distances for each stretch, including High speed. They are still easy to read despite the amount of info...

Max speed:

Do we have some stastics about the current marketshare of the AVE Madrid-Barcelona comparing to the airline route (El Puente aéreo) ? or the impact of the AVE on this route?

Line is open in February 2008 ---> 12 million passengers since.
Punctuality index: 98,5%

September 2008:47% AVE - 53% Airlines
October 2008: 46%
November 2008: 45,2%
December 2008: 45,1%
January 2009: 48,2% 188.839 pax (pilots strike and Barajas Airport collapsed due snow storms)
February 2009: 44,5% (199.026 pax)
March 2009: 44,3% (217.196 pax)
April-May-July 2009: above 46% (240000 pax/month)

at the end of 2009 Iberia launched an agressive promotional plan with huge discounts, this has settled the market share since, plus the global financial crisis, plus the delays of the ERMTS level 2 upgrade for speeds up to 350km/h. Once these factors are solved hopefully by the end of this year there will be even more reasons to move to HSR between MAD-BCN.

you´re welcome.

looking at that chart I come to the conclusion that:

A.- the HSR works
B.- Spaniards go on vacations in August all at the same time :-)

First international AVE

Six companies have been qualified by RENFE and begins the deadline for submission of bids for the AVE line between Spain and France.

Bombardier, Siemens, Ansaldo, Alstom, CAF and Talgo

The amount of this contract is worth € 270Mn and includes the manufacture of 10 high capacity trains capable of speeds above 300km/h should be able to carry more than 500 people. The winner should be known before the end of the first half of 2010.

This line will become operational when the new stretch Figueras-Perpignan is open in 2012 below the Pirinees and will be operated by RENFE and SNCF French counterpart.

Also there is a tender for development of a new IT platform to unify the ticket sales of both SNFC and RENFE operadora.

Unifying their gauge would be a better idea.

When the tunnels under Barcelona and Girona are finished then trains can run down to Madrid and Seville on standard gauge, but that could of cause be delayed to 2013-2014 of they run into problems.

As Falubaz said HSL in Spain is standard gauge. It France who has to adapt part of the power supply on their side as far as I know.

Keep in mind that this new line Madrid-Barcelona-Paris will be operated by a new company (joint venture RENFE-SNFC) and it will need a website

The new websphere platform will integrate and provide access to SNCF and RENFE services so you will be able to get tickets from any main Spanish city to any destination in France directly through this unique website, including destinations in third countries.

I would call it the new low-cost rail

Yes it is, but the traditional network is still isolated from Europe
