High speed trains in Spain

Do you mean the Talgo 350? I think they are offering it for the high speed lines to be built in Saudi Arabia and Brazil. They have also sold some passenger cars in America to the states of Oregon (for Amtrak Cascades) and Wisconsin (for Milwaukee-Chicago), and might make some more for Washington. Talgo was about to open a plant in Milwaukee for the expected high speed / upgraded lines in the US, but some republican governor was elected there who refused the $810 million in federal funds the state had been awarded for railways...

I hope they start building soon their newest train, the 380km/h Talgo AVRIL with up to 600 seats:

WOW great design!!

380km/h, is it possible to get this speed in some parts of the 350km/h HSLs? For example in some straight lines in Madrid-Valencia or in the future Valladolid-Burgos (very easy trayectories).

And 600 seets, awesome!!

Nice to see they went with a EMU HST instead of locomotive pulled.

Has RENFE given any clue if they will order the new HST's from CAF(Oaris) or Talgo(AVRIL) or are these being aimed at export rather than home sales?

As far as I can remember, the CAF OARIS prototype will be last unit of the RENFE contract of S-120 units. I suppose it will be the same for TALGO AVRIL, to be the last unit of the S-112 ones.

Regards.

Well the only thing I can say for sure is that HSR is a growth market, what with all these new designs coming out (I am a little surprised, however, that there has yet to be an update for the ETR 500). With European market liberalization, it seems that the big European providers (Siemens, Alstom, Talgo, AnsaldoBreda, and probably soon CAF) all want to offer new products for new operators.*

*Although my guess on this is that said new operators will probably rather buy secondhand equipment (it's cheaper) from SNCF, DB, TrenItalia, RENFE, etc.--leaving the preexisting national providers with a need (and the pockets) for new equipment.

Alstom Consortium Behind In Saudi Arabia Train Project-Report

Monday, Jan 17, 2011

PARIS (Dow Jones)--French engineering firm Alstom SA (ALO.FR) and French railway operator SNCF, who are part of a consortium bidding to build a high-speed train link in Saudi Arabia worth EUR10 billion, are losing ground to the Spanish consortium, French daily Le Figaro reports citing government sources.

The project involves building a high-speed train line linking the cities of Mecca and Medina via Jeddah.

According to the sources cited by the newspaper, the Spanish consortium--which includes Spanish train manufacturer Talgo and rail operator Renfe--has discounted its initial offer by 30%.
