Ok, not HSR for a second, just wanted to post some pics of the construction of the León-Asturias railway in the XIXth century which was problably the biggest engineering enterprise in Spain until then.

HeyHo,

Barcelona-Figueras will be opened in April 2013. How is it with the other lines? When will the next high speed rail open after that?

Not exactly: Barcelona-Figueras will be opened this January 2013, but just for national services.
International services will still need of a change at Figueras-Vilafant station till April 2013.

It´s the direct France-Spain service (and probably the Switzerland-Spain one too) that will be opening in April 2013. 2 or 3 Paris-Barcelona and vv., and probably 1 Geneva-Barcelona and vv. per day.
Further services might be introduced later: France-Madrid and Switzerland-Madrid, Barcelona-Toulouse, Barcelona-Marseilles, Barcelona-Lyons, Barcelona-Bordeaux, Barcelona-Lille... one still can imagine that London and Brussels will come some time later (there´s a TGV Brussels-Perpignan, and a Eurostar London-Avignon...).

The same 2013 will see the opening of the new HSL section Albacete-La Encina-Alicante. Travel time from the Costa Blanca to Madrid (and some time later, to Valencia, Barcelona, and eventually, France) will be shortened.

After that section, the most advanced one is La Encina-Xativa-Valencia, but the section Olmedo-Medina del Campo-Zamora might take over the former, given the speed of the works on the Madrid-Galicia HSL.

But essentially, after the Albacete-Alicante HSL section, we´ll see some time without any new line being opened. Not very long, though.

A few days ago was inaugurated the new commuter railway station of Beniel (Southeastern Spain).

This works are included within the framework of actions aimed to modernize the infrastructure of the area and build the new "Levante" High Speed Line.

I have a question regarding to the seperation of Renfe and Adif

I understand that Renfe Operadora operates most trains that run throughout Spain, but who owns and operates the railway stations? I see a big ADIF logo on the building right next to the Renfe Cercanías logo, so who operates what? And who owns/controls features offered in a station (such as a restaurant)?

ADIF as owner provides all the infraestructure (Railway stations, tracks, traffic control, etc) whereas Renfe Operadora only operates on it.

That's what I thought, thank you for confirming that.

So Adif also operates as a property owner then, leasing to people who want to set up shops such as a restaurant or a Renfe ticket window?

Is this tunnel part of the future HSR line from Madrid to Basque country?

No definitely. It is a narrow gauge line that links Hendaye (F) with El Ferrol (Galicia, northern Spain).

Until this month, managed by FEVE (Spanish narrow gauge railways). This company will be part of Renfe next year.

Thanks, it wasn't obvious from the original article. I didn't know that there are some serious building works on non-HSR lines as well.

Is the construction of Basque Y HSR still proceeding?

Yes, they are.

You can find further information in this thread located in the Basque region forum
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...4#post98481398

Despite almost all of messages are in Spanish, be sure that if you make any question in English you will receive an answer... and there are some forumers who have a great deal of information.

ADIF is the ProRail equivalent while Renfe is the NS' counterpart

It's an EU regulation so you will see a similar separation in a lot of european countries.

I don't know who is the one that operates the stations in Netherlands (I think it's also ProRail like the railways) but in Spain ADIF does it...

BUT there are some exceptions... like Parque Polvoranca station owned by the Government of the Madrid's autonomy... or the railway between Pinto and San Martín de la Vega (sadly without service since earlier this year).

Both were used by Renfe Cercanías and Parque Polvoranca is still serving over 300 trains per day...

The privatization intentions are not even confirmed and due to the oposition during the peak hours of the rumour I think that they will try to avoid it.

In the Netherlands, stations are owned and operation by NS Stations - even if NS doesn't serve the station. Nearly all retail stores, restaurants etc. are also owned by NS Stations (even Burger King). Platforms and tracks are maintained by ProRail, but travel information (including displays, passenger announcements, etc) has been transferred from ProRail to NS.

AHEM.

The line through Durango is NOT Hendaye-Ferrol.
The line is not even managed by Feve.

The line is Bilbao-San Sebastian, and it´s Euskotren which runs it, Feve has nothing to do with it since the very early 1980s or even the very late 1970s...
And I think you know it.

Btw, Feve still runs its lines this month (among them, the Bilbao-Santander-Oviedo-Ferrol line), and will do so till December the 31st.
It´s from January the 1st that Feve will be absorbed by Renfe.
