Because it's clean, quiet and well-organised?
All pmh needs is just a big mall with cinema and entertaining complex and restaurants...and the good news is one is under construction now!

i bet you at night you will see lots of ghosts over there.
but I have to say once in awhile you really need a place to get away from the chaotic Saigon no matter how much you loved it. it's places like Phu My HUng that will produce many talents, ........doctors, poets, scientists for the future. because young people have the time and the environment to think.....like dalat.... home to many universities and colleges Saigon is like a big screen TV...you just watch, live, and do no thinking whatsoever.

Look at all of Milky's photos of PMH in the previous postings -- there is not one person in them.

Now I know why I like PMH! Because (away from the main roads) it's like an American college town. I love cities, but you've got to have time to think. In Korea during national exams the government stops airplanes from landing and taking off. Both Korea and Japan have incomparably more quiet urban environments than does Vietnam. This has *a lot* to do with their focus on brain work. |

I speak of personal experience.....when I'm here .....it's very quiet...I have time to do many soul searching....inventing (invention already invented) writing songs (music already written)
but when I'm in saigon I don't even feel like watching TV at home....the streets are full of excitement....so many things to do and see as for living the quiet life in the busy city I think there is an alternative. houses in small alleys right in the middle of the city - big contrast between a short distance.... try to visit small alleyways in saigon and you'll see......only 1-2 minutes away the streets are full of polution and noises.....but when you get inside those small alleys...everything freezes........and I do see myself buying a house somewhere in those small alleyways in saigon.

What a bunch of dreadful photos. PMH just looks like a ghost town!!! I don't care how quiet or peaceful PMH to Saigonese, but it doesn't have "life" like the rest of Saigon. Keep in mind, the whole world know Saigon for what it IS, a vibrant city... I also looked at some new development in Thu Thiem (i.e., Saigon Pearl) and I liked it much better than PMH. If the developer does complete the project as predicted (Summer 08), you'll see how much Saigon Pearl attraction to anything PMH could offer. --Capee |

ey are they filling up the small creek running in the middle of Nguyen Van Linh street?
I thought that was a nice touch......kind of romantic. last time I was there people still fishing in those streams.

I don't know about the middle of Nguyen Van Linh St., but there is a river or inlet south of the street close to Grandview where there is the beginnings of a public park -- we go there occasionally to string up a hammock between a couple of trees and relax. I still wouldn't want to live there, though -- I get my energy from being around lots of people. I think there is a difference between educational environments and creative environments. Educational environments work well in quiet surroundings typical of most univervities. Creative people, however, need to work with many other people to conceive and implement their ideas, and creative people gravitate towards city centers. There needs to be different places for different kinds of people. PMH definitely provides a choice for those that want that -- it just isn't my choice.

everytime you want to get to PMH you have to pass by this big street Nguyen Van Linh and you don't see it?
I wouldn't call it canal or stream..because they got cut off at every intersection...........so instead of bridges crossing the canal like ohter places. on Nguyen Van Linh street you have small section of pools or "inlets" like you said.

Believe me, PMH is not dead, at least when you live there...at the morning you see ppl practice thai cuc quyen, gardeners watering flowers, in the evening you can see children playing, or that neighbor's Tv flickering...is it even lively than some urban neighborhoods in the UK.
And it is more quiet than Saigon city center, some people feel they are too tired with noise and pollution in the city, so they catched a chance to escape if they're wealthy enough.

I think neighbourhood in PMH don't have many friendship as normal area in SG , perhaps they're very busy in their work and don't have time to smile with each other ^_^ , the citizens here mind their own life but don't need what occur around their homes

the 1 thing i like about PMH is the sidewalk.
sometimes you really want to appreciate the city by exploring it on foot......but most parts of saigon are so busy with commerce you have to walk on the street. even in district 1 I really want to walk around and see all the historical architectures.....but every now and then you have to walk down the street to avoid sidewalk businesses. kind of dissapointed to see the narrow sidewalk or no sidewalk at all along those townhouses.......how do people walk to their homes? drive only?
