Cardiff: Waterfronts

Here are some photos of waterfronts in Cardiff, taken along the riverside, docks, canals and in Cardiff Bay, enjoy.

First up a classic view up the River Taff towards the Millennium Stadium, quite symbolic of modern Cardiff:

A little further downstream, a major new riverfront residential development, Century Wharf:

Water Taxi:

Over on the other side of town in the old docks area; canalside housing from the 1980/90s:

Dockside housing and offices:

Cardiff Bay old and new waterfront architecture:

Wide angle view of the inner harbour area of Cardiff Bay:

The waterfront promenade looks lovely, clean and well-maintained...kind of like Robertson Quay in Singapore, with sprouting of riverside apartments.

That red building with the clocktower, what is it? Does it light up at night?

That's the Pierhead Building, constructed as headquarters for the Bute Dock Company and now home to a permanant exhibition on the workings of the Welsh Assembly next door. It has been restored inside and out over the last few years and to look at it now you could believe it was built yesterday.

It has a tasteful lighting scheme at night, thus:

Yeah, I like the Pierhead building. It's a beautiful old building, a great landmark and is lit up quite tastefully at night.

The water is not clean in cardiff bay, infact they are always pumping it trying to clean it, now if its clean water with lovely beaches your looking for then visit swansea, wales second city, oh and much nicer than cardiff anyway, alot more friendly

God, if its not clean then why do you see cormerants fishing in there and other birds (along withb the wetlands center), plus salmon swim through it and up the rivers to spawn. It doesnt get dirty, you just get storm debris that comes from the rivers.

Swansea isnt nicer than Cardiff, its not nicer than Newport, though the mumbles is a must see.

Really like the Pierhead building, like a mini Rotes Rathaus. Though the residential parts are dire.

Its you again, i thought id come onto cardiff forum and tell cardiff for what it really is( like you come onto swansea) get real mate swansea is nicer than cardiff and newport dosnt even come anywhere near, even to cardiff and thats saying something. Swansea forever....oh and i know about cardiff being europes youngest capital, the millenium stadium, opera house etc etc ...so what its so boring.

You are so funny micaelroyboy. Swansea shopping center is mess with little attraction for local comuters, whereas Cardiffs is in the top 10 (number 7 i think) and soon will be upgraded once the mamoth St davids 2 is finnished and department store, plus there are the independant arcades. Swansea is totally disconnected fromt the sea front by a motorway, whereas Cardiffs inner harbour is an amazing place! The sports facilities in Cardiff are on an interrnational level whereas Swansea can boast a revamped swimming pool and a small ugly (IMO) stadium. You can sail in Cardiff bay you cant in Swansea. Face it Swansea is so far behind Cardiff and even Newport now that its silly to say Swansea is comarable let alone better! lol.

But again i dont hate Swansea (as you do Cardiff - jealousy i believe) and am pleased to see the recent plans put through to make it a better city, but even when these plans are completed (sorry if) then it still wont be better than Cardiff due to 100's of factors.

You tell me what Swansea can offer that Cardiff cant, because i can tell you more of What Cardiff can offer than Swansea ever could!

Now give it up, accept that people in Cardiff are not jealous of Swansea in any way and are pleased with whats going on there, and stop being so jealouse of Cardiff and the things that have and are happening here!

cardiff, I don't know what's more depressing - Michaelroyboy's absurd posts or your absurd attempts to argue with them.

I couldn't really give two hoots what someone with an anti-Cardiff agenda says about the place. I'm quite happy to say I like Swansea - especially its blessed geographical location, but that I prefer Cardiff. The fact that someone one minute claims to like Cardiff, but only objects to people slating Swansea (in a Swansea thread), and then the next minute posts provocative diatribe in a thread about Cardiff, only tells me they should be ignored, not argued with.

Whatever. I joined these forums several years ago as a mature adult interested in architecture and urban development. I don't care who is responsible, but I have no wish to watch Welsh threads on this site degenerate into imbecilic, childish point-scoring. I always assumed that such behaviour was better suited to other, less civilised forums.

Sorry if that sounds snobby and patronising, but this place gets more dispiriting by the day.
