Haha, maybe from that angle, the towers look too massive.
Once fully ready, they should look more like the renderings. ![]() http://www10.aeccafe.com/blogs/arch-...l-Land-Ltd.jpg ![]() http://www.archicentral.com/wp-conte...lections-3.jpg What about these? image hosted on flickr ![]() http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5155/...afbe33df_z.jpg ![]() http://www.aboutsingaporeproperty.co.../Lily-Lai1.jpg image hosted on flickr ![]() http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3038/...921e7d336d.jpg Last edited by SingaporeCity; August 22nd, 2011 at 05:17 PM. |

I think this project is the most eye catching condominium development in SG

Those towers look great from Sentosa. What's the area called?

Reflections of a big night with too many shrooms no doubt? Just because the tech to build oddly shaped, curved and distressed-looking towers is now possible ... does not mean that we should. These types of buildings challenge symmetry, form and rhythm normally associated with aesthetically pleasing design. They lack a coherent message and undermine typical expectations of the built environment. They are unerving and a grotesque parody of what has come before, especially in overly structured and manufactured synthetic singapore.

I disagree - they look fab imo, really striking and far nicer than the cookie cutter, low-rise Meriton boxes we have for apartments in Australia.& don't slag off SGP - "Overly structured & manufactured" you say - Heck, they at least allow for some fantastic developments and have innovative architects like WOHA (ILuma etc). Check out the amazing new buildings at the One-North business park etc. If only Australia could build a world-class MRT system like they have. (new extension to the Circle line opens 12 Sept )It takes longer here to build a cycle way down Bourke St than to pop up a new tower in Marina bay! |

Those towers in Singapore are almost completed, or still U/C?

I agree that just because something can be done does not mean that it should be done. A pet peeves is overly artistic airports....curse the architects that make you hump luggage and kids further just to win design awards! I don’t fully understand your criticisms though...if you have a moment and choose to, I would be grateful if you could explain a bit more. Whenever I look at art and architecture and see people using complex descriptions I always wonder if they really know what they are talking about. Which, as a grand master is unlikely to be a description that would apply to you. “These types of buildings challenge symmetry, form and rhythm normally associated with aesthetically pleasing design....” – I may disagree, but it’s a valid opinion. I think Liberskien may have deliberately tried to interrupt symmetry by using an design that borrows ideas from ikebana concepts. “They lack a coherent message and undermine typical expectations of the built environment....” - What are the "typical expectations of a built environment, and could you give some good examples of superior built environments? “They are unnerving and a grotesque parody of what has come before…” - What is being parodied here? "Especially in overly structured and manufactured synthetic Singapore." - One of the reasons I hope you will respond is I am curious what would work better here...a square skycraper? Singapore is a place a lot of people dislike, but the city works well, and function can be argued to have its own beauty. Singapore is probably the city that looks least pretty in postcards amongst the financial centres, but as compared to (IMO) the soullessness of Geneva or mayhem of Shanghai or HK it has a charm than a few residents think shine though. |
