Sittenbergtunnel in Austria has an overhead rail and is commissioned for 230 km/h and the Koralmtunnel (Vmax 250 km/h) will be equipped with an overhead rail as well.

So basically it is definitely possible.

Overhead rail as in rigid catenary? That is different than using low third rail with those "shoes" to draw electricity.

Is there any major AC system using low third rail?

Indeed. If there is one company in Europe who's HST's nobody expects to fall apart it's Alstom...

Not that I know of. AC systems all use overhead.

Hmm, it looks that there is no space for an underground crossing of the once planned Bologna-Metro or Light-Rail? Would be sad if building something like that is more difficult in the future.

Kind regards

Looks fine for a rural station, although of course the rational decision would have been to build a simpler/cheaper station and invest the remaining money in some other stretch of railway. Not like Italian railways are so perfect already that there is no need for it...

Italian HSLs are full of connections with the existing lines (mostly with grade separated jucntions), most of which entirely useless and used only when a section of the HSL is closed. They were built for political reasons, the same for Reggio Emilia AV station. It is just that Reggio Emilia got a separate station (more or less usable) rather than an useless connection like Vercelli, Piacenza or Modena.

The ondulated roof design appears to be quite interesting. Howewer, the materials used appear to be cheap, the concrete walls are not finished, the finishing touch is missing, the fenches separating the fast tracks from the slow ones are incredibily ugly, the platforms are very low and covered with tiles of substandard qualities.

Contrary to EU regulations, this station has no facilities for disable passengers, it is in the middle of nowhere and, at the moment, there are only talks about connecting this station to the old one, by a secondary railway line.

I have some concern about the untinted glass covering the roof. If the glass roof has been poorly designed it can cause a "conservatory effect" during the hot summers, and a "freezing effect" during the cold winters.

We'll see......

I'm afraid the underground (or even pre-metro) project is not scheduled anymore.

They're now just talking of a trolleybus line
