The George Read II House, on The Strand in New Castle. The house was built in 1801 by George Read II, who was the son of Declaration of Independence signer George Read. The house was built with an open lot across the street to allow for a view of the Delaware River, both for scenic purposes and to watch for shipments coming in. During Prohibition, the house's basement served as a speakeasy.

Sailor's Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church, on Main Avenue in Bethel. The church's name comes from the shipbuilding industry that dominated the little town for decades in the 1800s. The congregation was founded in 1809, and the present church was built in 1884 as the Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church. The current name of the church comes from the name of the church that existed from 1855 until 1884.

I bet others that have to learn about Delaware history for their jobs know more than me. Plus, I simply have access to several sources of data.

Fall colors are starting to show around the state now. Scenes in the state's marshland are good places to see seasonal foliage and wildlife, such as this marshland north of New Castle.
