A street scene in Newark on Main Street. Inluded in the picture on the right is the Stone Balloon, now torn down to make way for a mid-rise condo building. The Stone Balloon was once named a Top 10 College Bar by Playboy.

I have lots of pictures of Wilmington's neighborhoods so I'll be getting to them. Many are from the Spring or Summer so I am waiting until then to show them. Also, I can really only show one picture a day, so things will be slow. Lastly, I don't want this to be a Wilmington-only thread, so I need to get in plenty of other Delaware places.

A statue of Admiral Samuel Francis DuPont stands at the entrance to Rockford Park in The Highlands neighborhood of Wilmington. The Admiral DuPont statue originally stood in DuPont Circle in Washington, DC, until the DuPont family had the statue in the Circle replaced with a fountain and the statue was moved to DuPont's hometown. Rockford Tower is in the background.

Curly's, north of Nassau on DE Route 1, is a great place to get a Carolina barbeque and ribs.

The University of Delaware's Field House, in Newark. This was the home of UD basketball until the Bob Carpenter Center was built in the 1990's. It is still the home of indoor track & field.

100 years ago, today, the first train made a stop at Wilmington's new train station. The city celebrated the train station's 100th birthday this afternoon. You can read about the history of thr train station HERE on page 25 of the "Wilmington Development News" thread.

The old mill race follows alongside the Brandywine River in the Wilmington neighborhood of Happy Valley. The mill race was used to power mills along the Brandywine. In the background, you can see the Van Buren Street Bridge, and farther in the background is the much larger bridge for I-95.
