True. But still I don't see any foundations, which must be constructed for barriers close to pavement into embankment.

in romania there are noise barriers on pitesti bypass(a1)and on a2(near sarulesti, where the motorway is really close there to village houses).

Motorway sign, but no shoulders? And about the third pic, is that a U-turn?

I think that road used to be an expressway, but to give it more importance they change it to a "motorway". Where will the bypass of Sarajevo end heading towards Mostar?

When I drove there in 2003, it was alreay a motorway then. But I also remember that the maximumspeed was 80 km/h, at least into direction of Mostar.

That U-turn is when the 'motorway' already ends, you can see it again in the last pic, and I agree, it would've been better, if it had stayed an expressway. It's very short anyway. I remember pics of it, when it was still an expressway, but god knows where they are.

Ah, here they are. I guess part of it is (or was) an expressway (motorroad), part motorway.

Thanks for the info. It's still a mystery to me why they called this a motorway, because it's just a normal expy

I think they didn't have any motorway yet back then, so they recategorized it into a motorway, so they could have their first motorway.

Every country has its own motorways standards. Take Germany for example - many Autobahns wouldn't be even expys in other countries(like Poland for example).

BTW, having a motorway increases prestige of a given city

Well, motorwaystandards are generally the same in most countries; at least two lanes per direction, with a median, controlled access and shoulders. However, history leaves us with a lot of substandard motorways throughout the world.

That sign is there from the construction of the expressway and no it was never a motorway. but when it was opened there where no motorway's in BiH so the politicians try to sell it as one the illusion was short lived but the sign stayed and nobody bother to correct it.

well this is not motorway by BiH standard at all it is normal expressway and you can notice that by looking in speed limits that are 100 and off course the road is not tolled.
