Is there no central station in Shanghai? I'm very confused, looking at the maps posted, it's all tangled up.

Central station is the place where all rails meet. Mmm, maybe it is unique to Sydney, but here is the picture.

Yeah none of that here in Shanghai, the closest thing to a central station would be...People's Square?

Shanghai is too big for all lines to converge at a single point. None of London, Paris or Tokyo have cnetral stations - their network all take the form of radial pattern from a central network.

I'm pretty sure its unique to Sydney, even the relatively small city of Boston has 2 commuter rail stations and a few dozen downtown subway stations

Doesnt Century Avenue hold the world's title of most line passed in a single station? Line 2, 4, 6, 9?

Both King's Cross and Bank/Monument in London have 6 lines. I'm sure you can find crazy examples in Tokyo and Paris too.

Shinjuku station has 12 lines. Tokyo Station has 14 "lines" (when you include Shinkansens).

Yeah but I didn't consider Century Ave. since it's not in the CENTER of Shanghai, that's why I leaned more towards 人民广场

The Airport branch of Line 10 has finally opened today! However......

At the moment it is impossible to change between lines 2 and 10 at Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2. The station layout is thus:

========2 West========
ISLAND PLATFORM
========2 East========
ISLAND PLATFORM
========10 East========
ISLAND PLATFORM
========10 West=======

The idea was that trains going east on both lines would open both sets of doors so only a cross-platform interchange is required and passengers who have just got off the plane could have maximum flexibility with getting into town (East). Now technical reasons mean that the middle island platform cannot be used. In addition to that the two lines have separate barriered zones on the level above, so they comtemplated enable out-of-the-station interchange. Now it transpires that programming difficulties mean even this won't be possible for at least a week.

As line 10 connects the 2 terminals of Hongqiao Airport the free inter-terminal shuttle bus has been withdrawn. Passengers needing to switch terminals will now have to pay a ¥3 fare, as well as walk 500 metres between Terminal 1 and the metro station, negotiate a flight of stairs and enjoy the weather.

I took line 10 to Hongqiao airport to catch my Beijing flight yesterday. It's a pleasant experience. I didn't realize the interchange issue. The new stations (Like Shanghai Zoo) look neat. I took some pics, will upload later.
