The hotels have not changed at all since I was there in the late 80's. You need to put some money to work.

I remember you the fact that the photos were taken in 2004. Anyway, it's true that there are still many things to do ! But we have new/changed hotels ! Unfortunately, we don't have to much photos/informations on the internet, yet. This is another reason for which the West still don't know many things about the good face of the East (natural beauties, cultural values etc.). If they really want to know a country they must come to visit us ! I am living in Constanta&Bucharest and I really feel that things change quickly in Romania and we can be the tiger from the East ! At least, Bucharest, Constanta, Timisoara, Iasi, Cluj, Brasov, Ploiesti etc. have big potential for developments and peoples know/feel it and they are more optimistics that we can rebuilt a new and prosperous Romania !

Nice pictures ... it is not easy to attract investors to a place where you have only 3 months of summer per year... however the investments will come.

I remember reading about Mamaia in a Bulgarian paper. Apparently, a few Bulgarian hotel owners have already looked into/started investing there. The place looks really nice!!!

No offense, but it looks very tacky and typical Black Sea resort .
Romania has beautiful mountains but the coast is swampy.

I don't think mamaia can support any more tourists. During the season, even though it is usually 3x prices in Bulgaria/Turkey, the entire coast is full. You can't just go there and try to find a hotel, you have to look a month or more in advance.

The only problem I have is the service in some of the hotels. But for fun.....definetly Mamaia is the place. there is club after club after club.

It was kind of funny, this summer I went and there were litteraly hundreds of American tourists in Mamaia. Especially younger ones 20-30s. That seemed odd to me but its pretty well known.

They need to develop the other resorts on the black sea as well.

By the way, two years ago Romanians discovered Bulgaria as a tourist distination. We have never had as many Romanian tourists on the Black Sea coast as we did last summer. You are the fastest growing market for us.

Yes defenetely Romanians are the new sensation on the Bulgarian tourist market - i think i read statistics for last year - ~300 000 romanian tourists visited our Black Sea resorts last summer ... Romania is ahead of us in the industrial progress and development , but in the tourist and recreational one we are far ahead of them ...

There were articles in newspapers how Bulgarian construction and engineer specialist are finding new jobs in the Ship docks of Konstanta or on the building sites in Bucurest , and on the other hand that Bulgaria will import work hand from Romania for the comming summer tourist season because we lack so many season workers to cover all the open work spaces in the hotels and resort facilities on our Black Sea coast .

indeed i noticed that all the neighbor countries are ahead of us..we have lots of potentials to be no.1 in region..!!
i wonder if our government is making anything to change this reality

You really have to improve ... but still for number 1 , i am not sure that you could ever be . Romania's coast line is only 225km. , and Bulgaria's nearly twice larger - 380 km. Besides Romanian coast is situated north and hasn't got so many beautifull or cultural spots as the bulgarian one has. I remember that Romanian Queen's favourite place on the Black Sea was Balchik when Romania possed that land between 1913 and 1944 ... I wonder why she chose balchik instead of Mamaia ?

And i found some statistic for the last year - there were 369 084 romanian tourists who visited our Black sea resorts - a 97% increase from 2005 ... This year the toursits agents expect another 30% increase in the number of tourists from Romania. The over the weekend tourists from Romania had already encreased 10 times sinse 1st January 2007 ...

I am personally glad that we're not attracting that much residential investments ... as hotels, summer houses etc ... as they’re not sustainable. I AM GLAD THEY'RE RATHER INVESTING IN CONSTANTA PORT. The property bubble in Bulgaria (this is just my opinion) is very dangerous ... they only have 3-4 month summer per year so the investors will not have to whom to rent their properties during autumn/winter times... people have the impression that Black sea is Mediterranean Sea

Anyway ...all the best to our neighbours !!!
