My new city, São Paulo (11.5 million people), reversed the long-term downward trend and registred a 10% increase in the number of homicides. 3,225 (Jan- Sep 2011) to 3,536 (Jan-Sep 2012). As 2011, the murder rate was on 10.1.

San Francisco ended the year with 67 murders (city-proper, pop. 805,000). The entire metropolitan area/Bay Area (pop. 7.1 million) probably had around 250 murders total.

San Francisco had 3 murders on new year's day. A man was stabbed to death, and two bystanders were killed when a shooting suspect that was fleeing the police crashed into them with his car. Three people were also shot on new year's, including a 12-year-old boy, but there were no life-threatening injuries thankfully.

Definitely a more violent new years eve/day than last year.

I ain't sure if it is u or me who can't count, but imo
more than 3,500 in the entire 2011
with 11,5 million population
gives the murder rate over 30 per 100,000. Not 10.1
