I think DMCI create a new history of that. (fast and quick construction process) unlike other project in the Philippines.

PGMA opens new Bicol road linking Albay, Camarines Sur
Quote:
Manila (1 June) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo opened yesterday (Monday, May 31) the 24-kilometre Sagnay-Tiwi road that connects the province of Camarines Sur to Albay, underscoring the project's importance in linking two Bicol provinces with big tourism potentials.

Albay and Camarines Sur lie in the Central Philippines Tourism Corridor which has been the beneficiary of massive tourism-related investments under the President's super-region development concept.

The President led the ribbon cutting of the of the P320 million road project, Sagnay-Tiwi road that serves as the shortest route connecting the 3rd district of Camarines Sur to the first district of Albay.

She said infrastructure stands as a source of increasing investors confidence in the tourism as well as the driver economic progress in the regions whioch she said will soon feel the impact of the phenomenal 7.3 percent growth rate posted by the national economy for the first quarter of 2010.

The President then talked to Salvador Gacer and Leonin Barasona who both benefited from the road project.

Leonin, who before earns 100 pesos a day from fishing, has doubled his daily earnings as a laborer in President Arroyo's road project.

Meanwhile Barasona whose family lives marginally through farming and fishing said that before the road was built, his crops were easily damaged in storage and due to the lack of roads to transport his goods.

President Arroyo addressed Barsona that because of the road project his post-harvest losses will now be reduced.

The President said she hopes the next administration will continue her infrastructure strategy because of the progress it brings to the country.

NLEX-Mindanao Ave. link opens Saturday
Quote:
The Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), developer and concessionaire of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), opens Saturday Segment 8.1 or the NLEX Mindanao Avenue Link, a 2.7-kilometer expressway that provides motorists with additional entry and exit ramps to the NLEX – well ahead of the opening of the school year when traffic volume on the expressway traditionally surges.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, DPWH Secretary Victor Domingo and Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), parent company of MNTC – will lead the inaugural drive-through that will signal the start of commercial operations of the new segment.

The NLEX Mindanao Avenue Link connects the NLEX, at its Valenzuela City junction, to Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City. Built at a total cost of P2.1 billion and expected to serve up to 30,000 vehicles daily during the initial year, the new segment kicks of NLEX’s multibillion-peso road network expansion program known as NLEX Phase 2.

“Once this expansion program is completed, motorists from any part of Metro Manila and neighboring areas can get to the NLEX without going through the heavy traffic in Balintawak, the main entrance to the expressway, and other choke points in the metropolis,” Rodrigo E. Franco, MNTC president and CEO, said. “This will dramatically speed up the transport of people and goods via the NLEX and thereby, help further spur the economic development of Central and Northern Luzon.”

Under NLEX Phase 2 are three other road projects: Segment 8.2 which will link Mindanao Avenue to Katipunan Avenue and to C5, Segment 9 which will connect McArthur Highway in Valenzuela to the NLEX, and Segment 10 which will link McArthur Highway to Manila’s Port Area. Segment 9 will ease access to McArthur Highway, the old route to Central and Northern Luzon. Segment 10, also called “The Port Connector,” will dramatically speed up the transport of goods to and from Manila’s North Harbor.

PGMA inaugurates P2.1-B NLEX-Mindanao Avenue Link
Quote:
MANILA, June 5 (PNA) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated on Saturday the P2.1-billion North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-Mindanao Ave. Link or Segment 8.1 that will significantly help decongest northbound EDSA traffic.

The 2.7-kilometer Segment 8.1 connects NLEX, at its Valenzuela City junction, to Mindanao Ave. in Novaliches, Quezon City. It enables motorists to bypass high-density areas approaching the Balintawak toll plaza in Caloocan City.

The new segment kicks off the NLEX’s multibillion-peso road network expansion program of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), the mother company of the Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC) which constructed the Segment 8.1.

The President, who arrived at 11:30 a.m., was received by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Victor Domingo, MPTC and MNTC chairman Manuel Pangilinan, Valenzuela 2nd District Representative Magtanggol Gunigundo, and Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian.

On board a coaster, President Arroyo led the inaugural drive-through that signaled the start of the commercial operation of Segment 8.1.

The new segment, which started construction on April 21, 2009, was opened to the public today.

At the toll gate of the Mindanao Ave. Exit, the President handed over a cash payment of P91, the corresponding toll rate for a coaster vehicle, as “buena mano.”

The distinctive feature of this segment is a full cloverleaf interchange – three times larger in area than the Balintawak cloverleaf – that will allow motorists to enter and leave the main tollway from whatever direction without making full stop.

It is expected to serve up to 30,000 vehicles daily during the initial year.

After the inaugural rites, President Arroyo awarded the Order of Lakandula with Rank of Bayani to Pangilinan in recognition of his significant contribution to Philippine society as an eminent businessman, inspiring leader and as philanthropist.

The Order of Lakandula is one of the highest honors given by the Philippine government to an individual who displayed leadership, prudence, fortitude, courage and resolve in the service of his people.

With President Arroyo as witness, Pangilinan presented the unsolicited proposal for the NLEX-South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Connection Project to DPWH’s Secretary Domingo.

The proposed Connection Road project is an alternative north-south linkage at the core of Metro Manila and is a natural extension of the NLEX system.

It aims to decongest Metro Manila by providing an alternative to C-5 Road, EDSA and other major thoroughfares. It will cut travel time from Skyway/SLEX to NLEX to about one hour. (PNA)

SLTC to extend SLEX up to Lucena
Quote:
MANILA, June 16 (PNA) -- The extension of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) up to Lucena recently broke ground after the completion of an expressway road from Calamba, Laguna to Sto. Tomas in Batangas City, the South Luzon Tollway Corp. (SLTC) said.

In a statement, the operator of SLEX said the Toll Road 4 (TR4) or the new expressway from Sto. Tomas, Batangas to Lucena City has about 50 kilometers.

Isaac David, SLTC president, said the highway extension will cost about P10 billion.

The project will be funded through 70-percent loan and 30-percent equity.

The planned expressway will go around the western boundaries of Mt. Makiling, rolling through the countryside by about 50 kilometers to reach Lucena City.

Its construction is expected to start by the end of 2010 upon the government's delivery of the rights of way for the new road alignment.

SLTC's unit Manila Toll Expressway Systems Inc. (MATES) on May 2 took over the operations and maintenance of the Project Toll Road 1 and 2 of the SLEX.

A joint venture between the MTD Group and Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC), SLTC holds the right to rehabilitate, expand, operate and maintain the SLEX. The

Malaysian firm owns 80 percent of SLTC, while PNCC controls the remaining 20 percent. MTD Capital also owns part of MATES.

The company also completed the SLEX extension from Calamba to Sto. Tomas that is expected to cut travel time for 60 percent of the country's exports being transported to Metro Manila and other nothern points.

The expressway has about eight kilometers from Barangay Turbina to Santo Tomas, Batangas, thus linking the highway to the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road, the main thoroughfare leading to the international seaport of Batangas.

With this, the travel time from Sto. Tomas, Batangas to the Alabang viaduct is estimated to take less 30 minutes.

SLTC widened the 1.2-kilometer Alabang viaduct and the 27-kilometer stretch of the SLEX from Alabang to Calamba.

The former 29-kilometer four-lane expressway, which starts at the approach to the Alabang viaduct in Muntinlupa City and ends at Barangay Turbina in Calamba, has been widened to eight lanes from the viaduct to Santa Rosa, Laguna, and to six lanes from Santa Rosa to Barangay Turbina.

Funding for the SLEX project which was originally pegged at P8.5 billion has reached P11 billion due in part to increase in cost of supplies during construction.

All project expenses were solely funded by SLTC parent company, MTD Capital. (PNA)
